Katherine Ann "Kathy" Sperling

Sperling Katherine ("Kathy") Ann Dec. 11, 1950 - May 23, 2025 Age 74, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died on May 23, 2025, surrounded by family, after being struck by a vehicle the previous week. Kathy was born on December 11, 1950. After graduating from Springfield High School, she graduated with a BA in Business from Penn State, where she was a member of the Kappa Omicron Nu honor society and the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Kathy worked over 40 years, primarily in New York and Los Angeles as an executive in retail-buying and licensing at Kids R Us, Federated Department Stores, and Disney. Her volunteer work included tutoring English and art and mentoring teenage girls to help them go to college. In addition to her work, Kathy loved her family and friends, fashion, traveling, watercoloring, and staying active. She had an impeccable memory for dates and was a thoughtful gift giver, always ensuring that her loved ones felt special on their birthdays. Kathy was an especially devoted aunt who enjoyed spending holidays, especially Thanksgiving, with her nieces and great-nieces; taking them shopping and to Broadway shows and movies; and vacationing with them at the shore. She was endlessly social, making friends wherever she went - including lifelong friends she made in her sorority, at Disney, and at her gym in LA - and she delighted in hosting parties and bringing people together. And she was, of course, always the best dressed person in the room. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Roslyn Sperling, and sister Peggy Whitcraft. She is survived by her sister Betsy LeFrancois (Art); nieces, Meghan LeFrancois, Nicole Clowney (Steve), and Mollie Fox (Gavin); great-nieces, Evie and Kit Clowney; and many other family and friends. A small Celebration will be held later in LA. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
