Laura McEvoy Obituary

McEVOY
LAURA VERONICA (nee Hamilton), on August 9, 2005, of Camden, N.J. Aged 93 years. Wife of the late Joseph P. McEvoy, loving mother of James, Joseph and Mary Fogarty, 11 grandchildren, James, Lorraine, Chris, Matthew, Michael, Joseph, Mark, Maureen, Daniel, Margaret and Patrick and 16 great children. Laura was the caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother of the Hamiltons and McEvoys who cherished her kindness and many sacrifices to enhance their lives. Growing up in a show-business family, she ran the household of the Hamilton family from her teen years while her mother traveled with her sister and father. After marrying, she formed the backbone of her own family, working difficult hours as a waitress and a cashier to supplement the education of her own 3 children of whom she was enormously proud. She spent childhood summers in her beloved Atlantic City and continued her fascination with the seaside town by attending the annual Miss America Pageant nearly every year from its inception until her 90th year. The care and devotion of her daughter Mary brought joy and happiness to her last years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing Monday 9 to 10:30 A.M. at the BLAKE-DOYLE FUNERAL HOME, 226 Collings Ave., Collingswood, NJ. Funeral Mass 11 A.M. Church of St. Joan of Arc, Camden. Interment Tuesday, 9 A.M., Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 800 Jessup Rd., Suite 808, Thorofare, N.J. 08086.

I am so grateful for the many years I had to enjoy my Nanny. But I remember best the years when I was a little girl. Paper dolls and Shirley Temple movies. She was a hoot even in her more frail years...I had her "dancing" in her wheelchair to the rollicking tunes of a string band a couple of summers ago. She'll be missed.
