To the Becker family, my deepest sympathies to the entire family. Lew was a gem, pure and simple. I spent hours talking to him about rare books and vintage sheet music, while passing the time at Villanova Law School. We would talk constantly about our EBay finds, and more than anything, I will miss Lew's friendship and mentoring. For years, I was honored to guest lecture for Lew's family law course at VLS. And I enjoyed sitting in his office, among his law reviews and journals, crammed with scholarly works in so many different fields. Lew was a polymath and a Renaissance man, but also a brilliant scholar in our digital age. He left a huge mark in the fields of family law and professional ethics, and I know he will always be remembered fondly by his countless students and peers.

To the Becker family, friends, and colleagues:
I'm so sorry for your loss. I am a former Villanova Law student of Professor Becker's, and I'm forever grateful for how his class and teaching led me to my future career path.
As a homesick 1L, I took a summer internship at the Office of the Child Advocate in my home state, dealing with abused and neglected children. The following year, I took Professor Becker's family law class on a lark and I loved it. I enjoyed his teaching style and rapport, and I chose him again for my Legal Ethics class. I always remembered those classes, and I chose family law as my career path upon graduation. I became a judicial law clerk in Family Court in New Jersey and entered private practice for a number of years as a family law attorney. Although I've since relocated to the DC area and work in a think tank, I still work as much as I can on the intersection of family-related issues in public policy. I also signed up to volunteer for CASA.
Thank you so much to Professor Becker. His teaching touched me. Through his interest in and passion for family law, I discovered my own interest in and passion for family law. Approximately 11 years after I first walked into his classroom, I still enjoy family law and am forever grateful to him for helping me to find my passion.
Please accept my condolences.

I had the great privilege of Lew's friendship through the ABA , and then got to see him in the classroom at Villanova when he invited me to serve as a guest lecturer. The luxury of discussing with him the law, his passion for the protection of human rights and the rule of law will remain among my fondest memories. With deep condolence for your loss.

My sympathy. I worked with Lew for over twenty years in the ABA Family Law Section. He was a true scholar and gentleman. Whenever I needed something for the Quarterly, ranging from providing a little information, to answering an ethical question, to writing a full article, Lew came through - dependable, intelligent, articulate -- and a wry smile. Will miss him.

I am truly sorry to hear that Lewis has fallen asleep in death. May he sleep peacefully until Jesus calls him to be resurrected and to rejoin family and friends (Jo 3:16). Please accept my condolences. Andrew

Lew Possessed an abundance of wit, and a great capacity to poke fun at phoniness and
pomposity. He was engaging, charming, and a sincere sweet human being whose company we enjoyed immensely. We regret that we will no longer have the gift of his warm friendship, and we will miss him enormously.
