LLOYD NYCE Obituary

NYCE LLOYD PRICE Born January 14, 1940, son of the late A. Lincoln Godshall Nyce and Anna Alderfer Price Nyce, loving husband of Georgianna Egresites Nyce, father of Lori Ann Nyce and Douglas Lloyd Nyce, father-in-law of Rosalind Margaret James Nyce, and beloved grandfather of Hannah Maisie, Katie Rose and Liam James Nyce, passed into eternal rest on November 7, 2021. He grew up in his beloved Vernfield, Pennsylvania, on Indian Creek where Nyces and Prices have lived since 1720 and where his Unami ancestors had lived for thousands of years. He attended Souderton HS, Elizabethtown College, and Bethany Theological Seminary in Chicago. He began his career as a social worker and went on to serve in the top civil service position in the Hearing and Appeals Section of the PA Department of Public Welfare. He finished his career with distinguished service as a Workers' Compensation Judge in Malvern with the PA Department of Labor and Industry. He was an honorary member of the Philadelphia and Montgomery County Bar Associations. An avid sportsman, beginning with tennis in his parents' backyard grass court, he continued to play tennis twice a week until he was 79. Devoted to his family and the church, Lloyd served in many ministries including doing regular prison visitations and taking Vietnamese and Polish refugees into his home. He was baptized in Indian Creek at the Indian Creek Church of the Brethren (CoB) and attended both Harrisburg First CoB and in later years Pine Street Presbyterian, where he combined his love of the church and of music. He took his family to many concerts and supported his children's and grandchildren's education, never missing one of their concerts. He was devoted to serving others. Lloyd was much loved and will be missed terribly by his friends and family. A service of celebration of his life will be held at NEILL FUNERAL HOME, Paxtang, on Friday, November 19th, with visitation at 10 A.M. and the service at 11 A.M., followed by interment at Hummelstown Community Cem.

We extend the warmest condolences. I thoroughly enjoyed playing softball with Lloyd. He was a great person to play with even though we did not have a close friendship, he will be remembered in the future. Hang in there and keep praying for him and your family.

We remember Lloyd as an outstanding tennis player from our days at Rockville Tennis Club, Blue Ridge Country Club and Hershey Racquet Club. But Lloyd was also a really great guy and a big part of our tennis community. We will miss him. May God watch over him and his family.

The Montgomery County Bar Association Workers' Compensation Committee extends its sincere condolences to the Nyce family. Many of us were privileged to appear before Judge Nyce for years. He presided over his cases with a gentle professional demeanor and great respect for all the participants. Some of us took great pride in those occasions when we could make him crack a smile. We sincerely wish that memories of that smile, as depicted above, will buoy the family in the days ahead.

I worked with Lloyd as his secretary in the 1980's when he was Assistant Director of Hearings and Appeals. His work ethic could not be matched. Though he was a quiet man, he was always a gentleman. He knew the Public Welfare Manual from front to back. I always considered it to be a privilege to have known him and to have worked for him. My condolences for the loss of a fine man. Rest easy, Lloyd.

Oh my. May God's Grace embrace all the Nyce family in the days ahead. We speak of Lloyd often during tennis at Hershey Racquet Club.
