Matilda DOBBS

DOBBS, Matilda Mrs. Matilda Martin Dobbs was born Matilda Craig Martin on October 23, 1926 in Atlanta, the only child of Theodore Wayne Martin and Lydia Brevard Mathews. Matilda attended E. Rivers School and graduated from Washington Seminary before marrying Thomas Vincent Dobbs of Athens, GA. Over the course of her long and active life, Matilda was elected President of the Junior League of Atlanta and the Piedmont Garden Club, became one of the first female members of the Piedmont Driving Club, directed the Phoenix Debutante Society, and resided for 65 years in Collier Hills. She managed the bridal salon at Neiman Marcus for many years, which led to her long career as a premier bridal consultant in Atlanta. She subsequently served brides at several stores in the Buckhead area, including Tiffany & Co. Her vital and robust life ended in peace on October 6, 2014 after a brief illness. She is survived by her children, Lydia Dobbs Aultman of Bainbridge, GA, Thomas Vincent Dobbs, Jr., Wayne Dobbs Johnson, and Louise Dobbs Mann, all of Atlanta, and nine grandchildren. Because of her well-known love for cats, in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Atlanta Humane Society.
