Father we entrust our brother Michael to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Michael in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

Mike,

It's three years since that tragic day in Ramadi, Iraq. Heros like yourself are never forgotten and are always in our hearts and prayers.

Today is my daughters first birthday and I have to say that I see a little of Will, Mark and yourself in her.

She's tough, spunky and always giggling or up to no-good.

A few weeks ago the US Military gave control of Al-Anbar province back to the Iraqi forces. This only came about because of your dedication, selfless service and ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you Mike.

God Bless!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

September 11th 2008
7 years and thousands of lives later. I remember exactly where I was, how I felt, and the helpless feeling inside. Not Mike. He knew what had to be done. To him and the thousands of men and women like him THANK YOU! thank you for your bravery, patriotism, sense of duty and ultimate sacrafice. Because of all of you I am able to make this guest book entry. We should never forget Sept. 11th 2001 and we should take time to remember all those lost that day and in the 7 years since.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Mike,

Memorial Day will never be just another Holiday for me. I will always remember the greatest sacrifice anyone could ever give to their country. I will fly a flag this weekend that I flew on a hot and dusty flagpole in Ramadi Iraq in remembrance of you, Mark Dooley and Will Fernandez. You are missed by everyone and we will cross paths again in the Kingdom of Heaven.

To the Wife, Daughter, and Family of Mike Egan,

I have unfortunately never met you and you may not know me but at one time Mikey and I were very close. Mikey was my first section leader when I joined my first Marine unit as a LCpl back in 1997. He taught me what it was to be a Marine and more importantly we grew to be close friends. I will always remember the great times we had together on float, in the field, trips to Parkesburg WV, my bachelor party, my wedding reception, and many more. He will be missed everyday but I am sure he is in a better place reserved for extraordinary men like him. May he rest in peace and god bless him and his family for the ultimate sacrifice he made on our behalf.

To the Family of Sgt. Michael Egan:
Your son's name, along with our sons, is forever together on a Memorial standing at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA. Their dogtags hang together forever moving with the wind creating a subtle sound, like the quiet whispers of the Fallen as they continue to speak to us. Attending this Memorial Dedication and hearing your child's name being read along with ours, has prompted me to sign this soldier's guestbook.
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I would like to say, I am very sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose someone so close to you. It seems Sgt.Egan and myself shared some of the same stomping grounds. I was with 2nd AABN Bravo co. 2nd plt. From 2001-2004 I never did get to meet this Marine. He gave everything he had defending this great country and for that everyone of us should be very grateful. He is a Hero in my eyes. I also lost some friends in Iraq, I'm am thankful everyday I was able to make it home from there. But if needed would go right back. And I can see Michael was that type of person also. It runs in our blood. Once a Marine always a Marine, Rest in Peace Sgt. Michael Egan. And God Bless his Family.

I served in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd AABN, with Mike from 1994-1997. Mike was one of the best NCO's in our platoon. His knowledge of the job and the way he carried himself made him a huge asset to our platoon. Mike was also my roommate my last year in the Corps. We shared some good times together. I remember we both got chewed out for being late for formation after a good night of drinking. It was well worth it to serve with a true hero. "If the Army and the Navy ever gaze on heaven's scenes. Michael, while I was growing up, you were my Hero, I guess I was probably one of the first to look at you that way from my house next door... I am sure I am only one of the many who see you that way now. From playing matchboxes your driveway to having you as my son's Godfather, I always knew you to be a kind ang giving soul. Athough we lost touch over the past few years I still thought of you often. I always meant to call and get back in touch with you, but life always got in the way. I have a heavy heart for letting that happen. I will miss you dearly. You are still my hero.

For lack of a better description Mike is my brother-in-law. I first met him at my brother's home where we were installing a fence. I remember that Mike did indeed stand out from the rest of the "boys" that were there, mainly because of that smile of his. Though he had never met me before he treated me like family right from the start. I will always remember and respect him for that because that type of person is so rare these days. To his wife Maria, my favorite almost-sister-in-law and their daughter Sammi, my deepest heartfelt sympathies are with you and you know that if ever the need arises I am here for both of you. To the Egan family I would like to also extend my condolences on your loss Michael was a very unique person that was taken from us all much to soon he will be sorely missed by all.

All of Mike's Friends and Family,

I am Spc Harrington. I was on Mike and Will Fernandez's team here in Iraq. I served on every combat mission with those two until that fateful day. I wanted to go out on that mission but Mike and Will were insisting that they go and that I stay back and get some rest. That's the kind of soldier Mike was. He would put himself before anyone else and his dedication will be missed. He came to our unit in June at NTC and he caught on very quickly. We lost a great person, soldier, and ultimately a team was torn apart that day. Having a fiance and kid at home I can't imagine what his wife and daughter are going through. You have my deepest sympathies. I will do everything in my power to make sure that Mike, Will and Mark all died for a great cause that day and we will complete this mission in honor of their deaths.

Our son left us a letter in case he did not return. He told us we would be together again in God's perfect time.

I have heard from everyone that the men killed together were kind and thoughtful. They were liked by all their friends and the loss is felt by everyone. Know we are thinking of you and we would like to talk to you if you would like to do so. Love, Marion Dooley

I'm Free

Don't greive for me, for now I'm free;

I'm following the path that God laid for me.

I took his hand when I heard him call;

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day;

to laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way;

I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void;

then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;

Ah yes, these things I to will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow;

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I savored much;

Good friends, good times, a LOVED one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief;

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me;

God wanted me now, he set me free.

How I wish I could tell you this in person and share a drink with you and your brothers. I tell my son everyday now, that a football player, baseball players, actors do not make up a Hero. I tell him now my good friend, my brother who gave his life for us, now that is a True Hero! Mike I miss you , I love you! Rest in Peace! I will never forget you!

Even though we have never met, I wanted to share a poem with you.
You see I lost my only son when he was one month away from his 22nd birthday. That was in 1980. I know the pain and the sorrow that you feel.
I know in time the awful hurting inside of you will heal. I know right now it’s hard to Imagine that life can even go on. I can’t imagine anything worse then losing a child.

I am a Christian and I know that God’s strength saw me and my husband through. There were many days we just didn’t want to go on, but He was always there to help us.

I hope you will not take offence by receiving this. I only mean it to help and
let you know that I care. I will keep you in my prayers.

May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Michael has made a difference in every life he has touched.

Remember, John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should nor perish but have everlasting life.”

At Death of a Child
“I’ll lend you for a little while
A child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives
And mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or
Twenty two or three,
But will you ’til I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his days be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lane,
I have selected you.
Now will you give all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
To take him back again?”

I fancy that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this child shall bring,
The risk of grief we’ll run;
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
We’ll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner then we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.”
