Michael Jenkins Obituary

Michael Steven "Steve" Jenkins Sr., 58, of Columbia Cross Roads RR 2 (Springfield Township), Pa., passed away Thursday morning, July 20, 2006, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa.

Born Sept. 2, 1947, in Troy, Pa., he was the son of Edward C. "Mike" Jenkins and the late Dorothy Baldwin Jenkins.

Steve was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1965.

On Oct. 15, 1966, he married the former Carol Avery in Springfield, Pa.

Steve owned and operated Car-Eve Acres Farm for many years and also drove truck for area transport companies until declining health no longer permitted him to continue.

Steve loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, raising and caring for his animals, and NASCAR races.

Steve will be remembered by his family and many good friends for his outgoing congenial personality. He loved to visit with people and always had time for others.

Surviving are: his wife of nearly 40 years, Carol Avery Jenkins, at home; his father, Edward C. "Mike" Jenkins, of Springfield; three children, Michael Steven "Mick" Jenkins Jr. and his wife, Barbara Benjamin Jenkins, of Towanda, Pa.; William Andrew "Andy" Jenkins of Springfield, Angela Michelle "Angie" Deming and her husband, Jesse Deming, of

Tioga, Pa.; five grandchildren, Reba, Payton, and Austin Deming and Benjamin and Alisa Jenkins; three brothers, Thomas Jenkins and his wife, Pat Jenkins, of Rome, Richard Jenkins and his wife, Georgia Jenkins, of East Troy, Pa., and James Jenkins of Springfield; two sisters, Doris Morgan and her husband, Lou Morgan, of Allegany, N.Y., and Janet Morgan and her husband, Max Morgan, of Gillett, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and very close friends Butch and Corky Harkness and Doug and Helen Leiby.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Baldwin Jenkins, in June of 2001.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen

Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. with the Rev. William Lusk, pastor of the Leona United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Leonard Salisbury Evergreen Cemetery, Springfield Township.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, 2401 Pennsylvania Ave., Philadelphia, Pa. 19130, in Michael Steven "Steve" Jenkins Sr.'s memory.

To all of Steve's family and friends go my love and sympathy. I have very fond childhood memories of Steve from family reunion visits, and was hoping to see him this year at this reunion. Alas, that was not to be. He was a very good man, and he will be missed.
