Just stopping by to say hello to a co actor. He had an unique ability to draw the crowd's attention, which is not accomplished easy , I would assume you have done a couple shows for our Lord, thinking of you, God bless You.

I think of Dick a lot, he was a natural as an actor, sort of had a Jimmy Stewart carisma, easy movement but you knew when Rich had a line coming he made the most of it in his own casual way, I know your in God's cast, as the leading man, God bless you Rich. Frank J Grosso

I am very sorry to hear about Dick's passing. I only worked with him once in 'Flaming Idiots', but he was a great guy... always friendly and caring, funny and fun to be around. My thoughts go out to his family... he will be sorely missed.

I am very saddened to hear the news. I worked with Dick last year and he inspired me by showing me that you are never too old to start something new. He brought so much joy to the theater. He will surely be missed.

When first meeting Dick at the theater, you knew he was a special man. He always thought of everyone else before himself. Yes he enjoyed the acting and done exceptionally well, but he equally enjoyed the company at Village Players. There should be more people like Him in this world, it would than be a better place to live. I always looked forward in seeing Dick at the theater, He made you feel good. God Bless You always.

Dick and I were boyhood friends. His mother and father were the best. They were always kind to me and Dick did them proud. Dick was always a good boy and a loyal friend. I always knew he would be a success. I look forward to our meeting again. I will continue to pray for and to him.

I am fortunate to have worked with Dick three times, on and off stage. Although we will miss him down here, his smile and his spirit will remain in our hearts and on our stage. I have never come across such a great person. God speed my friend.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dick's family. I only knew Dick for a short time through the Village Players but what a gentleman. Always a kind word to say, never a negative comment about anyone or anything and all of this coming from a very talented man. Dick is a rare person who will be sorely missed by all.

A great flame has gone out. A fine actor has taken that final exit. This is very sad for us, whom he left behind, who have held Dick in high regard and will always cherish him in our hearts. But for Dick, this is only the beginning of a new journey. And as I blink back a tear or two, I can easily imagine the great joy welling in Dick's being - and, of course, he will pause to thoughtfully reflect on those who will be most affected by this passing; he was just that kind of guy. John Lennon once said, more or less, "I imagine that death is like getting out of one car and getting into another." I hope there are many miles and great sights in Dick's next vehicle. And I know his next role will be another crowd-pleaser.

Thank you Village Players for your kind words. Dad genuinely enjoyed the time he spent with his theater "family", and he loved every minute of his time on stage. Thanks for being so good to him.

Dick was a favorite with audiences and with co-stars, a delight onstage and in the green room. He was "courtly" in an age where that is unusual. We were both lucky enough to appear onstage with him and will never forget him.

My deepest condolences to Dick's family. He was a wonderful person to be around. You could always count on him to make you laugh. I loved working with him in most of the shows he was in especially 'Barefoot in the Park'. Watching him get ready to do that scene was great and everybody loved him. I will miss him always.

Aside from Dick's great moments onstage at Village Players, I will remember him most for the moments backstage. Dick always had a very positive influence on any cast that he was involved with. He fit right in with everyone, and enjoyed what he was doing to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of directing Dick in "Our Town", his last stage perfomance at Village Players. Dick had a way of making the characters he portrayed come alive. I watched every performance , just waiting to see what new "bit" he added to his character(s). It was a gift to have known and worked with Dick, he ALWAYS made me smile. Dick will be sorely missed by everyone at Village Players.

Dick was such a wonderful addition to the Village Players casts and crews. I directed Dick in two plays -- Picasso and Black Coffee -- and worked backstage with him on many others. Those experiences were terrific. He was a true professional, onstage and off, as well as a true gentleman. My prayers are with your family in these tough times, but please know that we all loved Dick very much.

I was very saddend to hear of Dick's passing. He was one of my very favorite people at the Village Players, I used to always call him "crowd favorite Dick Devine." All he would have to do is walk on the stage, and he instantly created one of the most memorable moments of any show he was in! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, and please know that Dick will be very fondly remembered at the Village Players of Hatboro.

Sincerely,

Clarissa Thurman, stage manager for "Barefoot In The Park", "Black Coffee", "Greetings", "Flaming Idiots", and "Our Town" as well as one of Dick's fellow actors in Hatboro's one acts.

The following is now posted in the lobby of The Village Players of Hatboro along with a picture:

It is with a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our friend and fellow actor, Dick Devine. He will be missed. Since 1998, Dick has been an audience favorite and good friend of the theater. Over the past few years, he appeared in ten shows at The Village Players of Hatboro. No matter how large or small the role, Dick always made a memorable appearance. In “Barefoot in The Park”, he was on stage for about three minutes and had no dialogue. He played an out of breath messenger. He got the biggest laughs of the show. On stage, Dick was that rarest of actors: a gifted comic. He always got laughs. Big laughs. He managed to put his own stamp of each character he played. Off stage he was that rarest of people: a gentle, decent, sweet man. Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of Dick’s story is that he auditioned for the first time in his life at the age of 72! He got the part.

I am deeply sorry for Dick's family having to bear this loss. Dick was a recent friend of mine, but what an impression he made! I trust he is at peace and I know we'll all see him again. We used to say in the theater, "Break a leg, Dick!", but now we can say, "Enjoy what rewards God has for you, Dick."
