Robert Allen Hirsh

Hirsh Robert Allen Age 83, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Oct. 4, 2025 at home with his wife, Shelly of 58 years. Robert was born May 2, 1942 in Philadelphia, the son of Joseph Hirsh and Freda Weinstein Hirsh. Robert graduated from Central High School in 1959, then went on to LaSalle College where he joined ROTC and Gratz College, earning a degree in Biology and Hebrew Literature. He went on to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and joined the Army following graduation as an on the job trainee in Anesthesia. Following his service in the Army he went back to the University of Pennsylvania to complete a residency in Anesthesia. Bob married Rochelle Zeitenberg on December 26, 1966, the day following 30 inches of snowfall in Philadelphia. Together they raised Jeremy, Daniel, Max and Rebecca and delighted when their family grew to include their daughters in-law: Sabrina, Shannon, Ronda and Talia. Bob was a loving, devoted and completely besotted Pop-pop to each of his grandchildren: Emily, Benjamin, Eli, Jacob, Mia, Claire and Gabriel. After serving as chief of anesthesia at Jeanes Hospital and then Burlington Memorial Hospital, Bob enjoyed taking classes at BZ/BI synagogue in Philadelphia and volunteering at the Franklin Institute where he shared his love of science with adults and children. Bob will be remembered for his quiet, gentle demeanor, his dry humor, his devotion to his family and his unwavering commitment to excellence in all his endeavors.
