Robert PAGE Obituary

PAGE Robert Charles The eldest of four brothers, was born in Detroit, Michigan. In 1961, he married Aldona Rastenyte Page, with whom he would have four children. "Bob" graduated from Wayne State University with an M.A. in English. While teaching at Temple University he became enamored of the Spanish guitar and bought The Classical Guitar Store in 1973, running it like a musical salon for four decades. Bob was also a Francophile, traveling often to Paris and the French countryside. A lifelong jazz aficionado, he was a regular at live venues. Bob could often be found reading and smoking his pipe on a bench in Rittenhouse Square, where he cherished bumping into friends and making new ones. Bob is survived by his three brothers Bill (Sue), Jim, and Tom (Risa); his daughters Lina (Martin) and Indre; sons Andrew (Molly) and John (Renae); and eight grandchildren William, Nora, Ona, and Peter Stocovaz; and Walker, Oliver, Finn, and Maeve Page. A Memorial Service will be held at WEST LAUREL HILL CEMETERY, on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 2 P.M.

I only knew Robert through several phone calls to his store years ago, but he made a lasting, positive impression on me. We enjoyed our conversations, maybe because of vastly different backgrounds; he an urbane traveler, myself a small-towner in a rural isolated area of Texas. I was initially so impressed by a man that had owned and operated a store for 40 years that only dealt in products related to a fairly obscure activity, and was very successful at it. Over the years, I have purchased 4 guitars from Robert and Bill, and I love all of them. When Robert was describing a guitar to me, he never went into minute, confusing details. I could tell he knew exactly how good an instrument it was, probably by already spending time trying it out.
I would have liked to have met him in person; I believe we would have enjoyed each other's company.

Kindest regards to all family members,

Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your father and grandfather, Robert Page. I knew your Father when he was a young
man . He, his wife Aldona and baby visited us many times in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. My husband, Dr. Julius Kaupas, and I liked to have lively discussions about life, literature and music with them. Robert liked to improvise on our upright piano, he had the ability to recreate any heard melody . I very much appreciated the English translation of Dr. Kripstukas Pragare, my husband's Lithuanian fairytales, that Robert and Aldona undertook. Robert's life was filled with the love of family, friends, literature, and especially, the love of all types of music.
He will be missed.
