TED CHONG Obituary

CHONG
TED WAH SING, M.D., age 92, of Moorestown, NJ, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013. Dr. Chong was born Aug. 24, 1920 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Mr. and Mrs. C.S. Wing. He attended McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii and received an undergraduate degree, medical degree and completed graduate medical studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He attended medical school under the United States Naval Reserve program and was on active duty as a Lt. Junior Grade from 1943 - 1945. He served in Operation Sandstone in the Enewetak Atoll in the Pacific, as well as Tripler Medical Hospital in Aiea, Hawaii.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he began a private obstetric and gynecology practice in Honolulu, Hawaii. He later relocated to Moorestown, NJ, where he practiced medicine in South Jersey for over 50 years. During his career, he served on the clinical faculty of the Thomas Jefferson University and Cooper Hospitals. During his tenure at the Zurbrugg Hospital in Riverside, NJ, he was a founder of a breast cancer clinic for women.
Dr. Chong was an avid golfer from his teenage years through age 92. He carried a single-digit handicap for many years. He was a member of the Doctors Golf Association of Philadelphia and the Tavistock Country Club. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his golfing friends and family members.
He is survived by his wife Janice M. Chong and 4 children Sue Lin of Baltimore, MD, Glenn and his wife Diane of San Diego, CA; Jei Lee Freeman and her husband Barry of Winchester, MA and Erica Slavin of Nantucket, MA; his grandchildren Ryan and Kevin Chong and Lucy Freeman. He is also survived by a sister, Marietta Eng of Honolulu, HI and sister-in-law Blanche Chong of Honolulu, HI and numerous members of his extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife Stella Sunn Chong, who died on Feb. 15, 1971.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the University of Pennsylvania, Phila., PA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation with the family Friday 11:00 A.M. - 12 Noon at McCHESNEY FUNERAL HOME, 30 W. Main St., Moorestown NJ where a Memorial Service will take place at 12 Noon at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Janice and family,

Dr. Chong was my doctor for many many yrs. and I had many surguries by him. He was a dedicated doctor and will be missed. He also operated on my daughter when she was 15 yrs. old and was so very comforting to us all..A great doctor.Oh, also he took care of my MOM..

Dear Janice,
I'm truly sorry to hear of Ted's passing. He was the physician I admired on the Cooper Hospital Staff during my Ob-Gyn residency from 1956-1959 and the later years I was on the Gyn staff there. Always truthful and a good instructor.

Ted was my wife's life long OB/GYN, and delivered my first born son at old Zurburgg and worked with my late Sister in law for yrs at Cooper Hospital......
