Although Tom was once my student, classes for him never ended. Over a decade between 2:00 - 4:00 AM on a quarterly basis and from many places Tom would call, wake me, and discourse on everything and anything. But he loved music, and patiently taught me much. After each exhausting dialogue, I said this prayer: "Lord, still me. Let my mind be inquiring, searching. let my heart be open. Save me from mental rust. Deliver me from spiritual decay. Keep me alive and alert, and the same goes for Tom Gallagher." May he rest in the Light of Life. My condolences to all his family

I'm still in shock, trying to internalize that there will be no new "Major TAG" posts on the Ray Davies forum. I'll miss Tom's wit and musical knowledge. I'm glad we have some of his music to enjoy, but I wish there could have been more-- more music, more fun, more Tom sharing the journey. I never met him in person but just the same he was part of my life. I loved seeing the photos from the Wiltern and other Ray Davies concerts. Peace be with you, Tom. To Tom's family and friends, you have my deepest sympathy as you grieve the loss of a very special person.

I knew Tom since we were both
1.5 years old. We grew up living two houses apart in a little suburb just outside of Philly.
He and I were best friends and although I moved to Miami after high school we always stayed in touch.
For those who know his music...here's something you may have not known about him...
I'm a drummer and he got into guitar as I was first learning to play my set. He fell out of it shortly afterwards frustrated that his hands couldn't do what his mind was telling them.
Sometime later (less than 12 months), he got back into it. He heard my playing improve, he heard my sister on her Accoustic and he heard his calling.. he came back with a vengeance and what was once frustration slowly but surely transformed into true skill and accomplishment.
Tom was never a "lesson" kind of guy. He and I picked up the tunes as we went off the radio and began jamming at least 5 days out of every 7 beginning at age 14-15. We drove our parents nuts! and the neighbors too! All hours of the day and night, we kept jamming.
I could go on an on, but I just wanted to share something of his roots in music with everyone.
Tom was more than my best friend. We were like brothers. He was as much a part of my family as I was his. We did everything together, not just the music, from 1.5 up until I moved at age 19.
I can't believe he's gone. I'm so sad. There's a hole in my heart.
Love on you Tom and from where you are now, I'm sure "the stars look very different, today" (D. Bowie).

I knew Tom as TAG on a couple Kinks/Ray Davies message boards. We had many laughs over the years that I knew him. I feel terrible about his passing. Can't seem to shake it. To Tom's parents, Tom was such a humble and great friend to many people. Please be proud of him. I wish his whole family the best in dealing with this.

Tom was a wonderful, very funny and very kind soul. I always had admiration for his great wit, wonderful musical tastes and knowledge and his brilliance as a musician. But what I will miss most is the conversations at the forum that became such a routine part of my life. Sometimes they were serious musical discussions and other times they were just plain silly. But they never failed to make me laugh and keep me entertained. Tom, you will be terribly missed and never forgotten.

It was my pleasure to be your friend and band mate in all the projects we worked on together over the years. Today I'll play the Swell Box "Age Of The Wheel" CD we collaborated on at my recording studio, hoping you hear your great music. You will be missed my brother, by me and all whom you touched in your life.

Major,
You were a light in my day, as I signed on to the forum, I knew you would be there with a laugh, you made me spew my drink many times!!
You were always kind, and ready with a comment.
I told you about the "jesus fish", and we howled!!! Its on order now, and it will always represent you.
Rest, MajorTAG.

Tom was my dearest friend. We spent so many hours talking. He was always there to provide support and laughter. He touched my life immensely as I know he did for everyone who had the privilege of having him in their lives. My deepest sympathies go out to all who were fortunate enough to have known Tom. You are sorely missed my friend.

Tom and I met from our mutual appreciation of The Kinks. I'll never forget singing, laughing, having an incredible time at 2 Ray Davies shows in Chicago. Tom was so wonderful to me as I was dealing with the illnesses of my parents which I will never forget. I have his CD and will always cherish it. He was a large part of the Kinks family and was known for his humor, wit, kindness, spirituality, music taste & talent.
Thank you for the Days, Tom!
with love, Alba
