La Salle House, 100 Faculty Lane
Dear friends and family members:
I was saddened to learn of the death of your dear brother, and our dear priest, Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. Scanlon. At times such as these, words are unable to carry the full message of comfort and consolation which we want them to bear, but they are all we have. Having experienced the death of my own father in 1995, I am aware of the deep emotions which accompany such a loss. Father Scanlon welcomed my late father, Robert Wilsbach, Sr., when he was employed at St. Joseph’s-in-the-Hills, Malvern. He also was gracious host to all of us Christian Brothers when we held retreats there. Be sure of continued remembrance of him in my prayers and those of all the Brothers here at Lewis.
May the Lord continue to hold you as well as all your family and friends in the hollow of his hand and may you find his comforting presence in the silent power of prayer, in the wisdom of the Scripture, the nourishment of the Eucharist, the beauty of the liturgy, and in all his holy people gathered round you to help us.
I join my voice to the ancient hymn of the early Church:
May the angels lead him into Paradise.
May the martyrs come and welcome him on his way
And lead him into the holy city, Jerusalem.
May the choirs of angels welcome him.
And with Lazarus, who once was poor,
May he have everlasting life. Amen.
I close with the traditional prayer which we Brothers have prayed for over three hundred years:
Live Jesus in our hearts--Forever.
With sympathy and promise of prayers,
Your Brother,
Bob Scanlon

Uncle Tom,
You were wonderful! A humble, kind, and caring man, and yet strong in your conviction to always do the right thing. We remember with fondness all the times you came to our house for dinner and a movie; especially for the Millenium Celebration! You were so easy to be with, never any pretense about you. We loved you.
Thank you Marianne and Chrissy and those who looked after him, your kindness will always be remembered and cherished! God bless you and your families who spared you while you cared for Uncle Tom.
Love,
Bob Scanlon

Friends and family of Monsignor Scanlon,
I treasure the memory of traveling to Maryland with him to spend a week at the headquarters of the Family of the Americas to become master trainers of the ovulation method of NFP. Everyone present was in awe that a priest would be so passionate in his ministry to couples and families that he would personally attend an entire course in natural family planning and be certified as an instructor for the FAM. Of course he offered his prayers and daily Mass for all of the attendees. He inspired many of us in the NFP ministry here in Philadelphia and did much to encourage us to continue to speak boldly regarding Holy Mother Church's plan for life and love.
Father Tom, please pray for us, that we may build a culture of life in women's health care.
In Christ,
Barbara Rose, RN and FertilityCare practitioner

Father Tom was a lovable, kind man - gentle in nature and always there to lead the way. The lit candle is how I will always remember his guidance in life - "Better to light a candle than to curse the darkness." Thank you, Father Tom for always being an example of Christ's love. Rest in peace, your work in done good and faithful servant. May our lives reflect your goodness. Bonnie and Mike Koller

Dearest Scanlon family,
It was a joy to be a part of Father Tom's life. Our group of friends became close and he was the one who brought us together. We shared so many special moments with Tom. We prayed, laughed, cried at times, had parties, maybe a beer or two?? would you believe Tom doing the chicken dance, but most of all through his guidance we became a faithful group of friends. For that dear Tom we will always be grateful. Be in peace dear brother, you remain with us.
God bless you all

My family has known and loved Father Tom for 35 wonderful years. My parents, Bob and Anne King, have been faithful friends to him for all of those years. He is so much more then a friend to us, for as we grew up, he became an Uncle to my brother Bob, sister Peggy, and myself. He married my brother Bob and his wife Kim. He also married my husband, Lenny and I. He baptized our daughter, Katelynn. While I was a child, every year, he joined us on vacation at the shore. He truly made our family vacation complete. His humor, lovable ways and laughter was contagious to us all.
He was an important member of our family and we will miss him dearly. Anyone who knew him was a better person for it. I know that my family is!
His kindness, generosity and lovable ways have been shared with so many..from Marriage Encounter to the FTBM group, which is a group of close friends, of which my parents belong to both with Uncle Tom.
He helped so many parishioners at the numerous parishes he resided, as well as all the students that he taught.
The Scanlon family is an amazing family. They are such loving and giving people, especially Father Tom's niece, Marianne. Her dedication, loyalty and unconditional love to Father Tom has been so beautiful.
Uncle Tom, your suffering is over and you are at peace now. We will miss you so very much.
I have been and always will be proud to call you my Uncle Tom. I love you.
