Dear Todd, Its the eve of our CHS 50th High School Class reunion and your presence will most certainly be missed. We shared so many good times that began geowing up at 2nd and Cheltenham . From our early days at Congregation Melrose Bnai Israel to when our families move a block from each other off New Second Street. How many trips down the hill from my house to yours , summers together playing cards, pong pong and Bollards and of course going to the magic shop in town riding the reading line to bus trips on Saturdays to Atlantic City. You were the most loyal friend I ever had. Days working at the Hardware Store with you and your Dad you helped me big time in so many ways. You had a love for electronics that was infectious. My very 1st Stereo Cassette player was purchased with your help from a catalog from the hardware store discount and I still have it to this day. I owe so much to you my dear lifelong friend. I use to bring my children into the store just so we could get a chance to talk to you and I miss you dearly. So on this anniversary know that I think of you often with great fondness and that the memories off all that we did together, your kindness, smile and humor will live on within me forever. You made the world a much better place.
With much love ,

Just found out. My condolences to all the family. Hadn't seen Todd in many years but memories go back to elementary school: card games, parties, swimming in the pool, bike rides ending at his parents house, shopping at Melrose Hardware. Good bye and RIP old friend.

Todd Cohen, friend of many, passes away
a brief appreciation by Albert Fried-Cassorla
Neighbor Todd Cohen passed away on October 18, 2015. He was a proprietor and manager of Melrose Hardware on Cheltenham Avenue. His dad, Jack Cohen, had passed away only a few months earlier. Todd had a genuine appreciation for people, an easy smile and something kind or pleasant to say to just about everyone.
Personally, I loved when he greeted me upon entering the store with a big: "Alphonse!!" and a broad grin. He knew my name was actually Albert, but somehow it sounded better as Alphonse coming from him.
He helped me and so many others with household challenges, I am sure. Among the varied dilemmas he advised me on were: patching the concrete on my front stairs, proper treatment of my snow-blower to prevent gas coagulation between winters, getting rid of mice, repairing my teacher's cart, fixing broken hoses, and so much.
Todd was always willing to share an opinion on the Phillies, Sixers and Eagles. His opinions well-informed but never full of home-town overconfidence.
If I could crack Todd up with a joke, that made me feel good. If my joke was lame, he didn't pretend it was hilarious. That also made me feel good. It will be hard to return to Melrose Hardware knowing he will never return to his customary seat beside the cash register, beaming his smile.
Todd, we miss you. You were a wonderful man!

STOP THE CLOCKS,CUT OFF THE TELEPHONE
PREVENT THE DOG FROM BARKING WITH A JUICY BONE.
SILENCE THE PIANOS AND WITH MUFFLED DRUM
BRING OUT THE COFFIN,LET THE MOURNERS COME
LET AEROPLANES CIRCLE MOANING OVERHEAD.
SCRIBBLING IN THE SKY THE MESSAGE,"HE IS DEAD."
PUT CREOPE BOWS ROUND THE WHITE NECK OF THE PURPLE DOVES
LET THE TRAFFICE POLICMENT WEAR BLACK COTTON GLOVES.
HE WAS OUR NORTH, OUR SOUTH, OUR EAST AND WEST.
OUR WORKING WEEK AND OUR SUNDAY REST.
OUR MOON, OUR MIDNIGHT, OUR TALK, OUR SONG;
I THOUGHT THAT LOVE WOULD LAST FOREVER. I WAS WRONG
THE STARS ARE NOT WANTED NOW: PUT OUT EVERY ONE;
PACK UP THE MOON AND DISMANTLE THE SUN;
POUR AWAY THE OCEAN AND SWEEP UP THE WOOD;
FOR NOTHING NOW CAN EVER COME TO ANY GOOD.

A true and loyal friend to all who were fortunate enough to know you.
We shared many Childhood memories. You were always fun to be with, your card tricks our trips down to AC and center city on Saturdays back in Junior High, or hanging out playing billiards and ping pong in your basement, I will always owe you a debt of gratitude for your friendship and generosity.
Rest in peace my friend.
