This is for Ms. Betsy Brookshier from "Mrs. Scerbo," your math teacher from NDA! Betsy, I've never forgotten you or your amazing parents. I hope you get this because I'd love to just hear from you briefly. My name is now Pat Hochkins and I live near Sarasota, FL. My email is [email protected]. I heard of your dad's death and, at the time, i thought of him and you. Your dad was a great man, Betsy. BTW, you can also find me on Facebook at "Patricia McMahon Hochkins" from Ellenton, FL. I REMEMBER MR BROOKSHIER FROM HIS GAME END LEAP OF JOY AGAINST THE PACKERS IN 1960 TO HIS HUMOROUS AND INCISIVE ANALYSIS OF GAMES WITH PAT SUMMERAL. HE SHINED ON THE RADIO TALK SHOWS. HIS WARMTH ALWAYS CAME THROUGH. HE WILL BE MISSED. AN ERA HAS ENDED. GOD BLESS HIM AND HIS FAMILY. J KEVILLE (a fifty year fan)

Tom and Pat in the booth on Sundays and their NFL Films work were a huge part of my childhood growing up. They were so good together and you felt like they were there in your living room, enjoying the game with you. Tom was a Philadelphia treasure, and my heartfelt condolences to Barbara and the Brookshier family. Marc (Media, PA)

My thoughts and prayers go out to Barbara and the rest of the family. Tom was a great human being, with whom I had the privilege of working at WCAU-TV and later in a campaign on behalf of people with mental illness and development disabilities. Tom always gave 200% to everything he did.

Tom Brookshier, and players like him, made me proud to be an Eagles fan. They were men we could look up to and made the game what it should be. May Tom's memory and the love and respect he created in his lifetime strengthen his family through this difficult time.

I never met Tom Brookshier but I felt he was a part of my family like an uncle. I grew up in Philadelphia Tom was the enbodiment of what an Eagle and a Philadelphian are like, hard hitting, passionate and sincere. I became a Eagle fan one year after his career ended but he made football through his T. V. work seem so real.

I've known Tom Brookshier and the entire Brookshier family my whole life. Brookie and my dad, Zack Jordan, were football and baseball stars at the University of Colorado in the early 50's. My parents met there, and were best friends with Tom and Barbara -- a friendship that has lasted more than 55 years. Before Tom and Barbara left for Philly, we giggled and played with our first childhood friends, Linda and Tommy. When my dad died suddenly in 1978, Uncle Tom immediately flew to Denver and gave us such loving comfort -- he was like a second father to the 3 Jordan kids. We didn't see each other often, but Tom has very special place in my heart. All these lovely tributes are wonderful to read, and how lucky I was to have basked in his warm light my whole life. My heart is broken for the Brookshier family, but I know "Brookie" and "Zoomer" are happily reunited in heaven. So glad you aren't suffering anymore, Tom. I love and miss you.

Tom Brookshier loved his family and the NFL. Some of the earliest games I ever saw he was the voice and analyst for. His voice provided the soundtrack of those games and memories. God Bless You and your family. You will be missed by all that loved football.

Brookie,
Your laughter was one of the cherished soundtracks of this city that you loved, and truly loved you back. I only met you once in person - and quickly, at that - but in a short time, you conveyed that beautiful joy of life and warmth that you were known for.
My prayers and hopes are with your family for every strength and comfort.

Back in the early 1990's, I had won a radio contest and went to the WIP offices to pick-up the prize. Tom Brookshire was passing me in the hallway and said "Hey Big Fella". Thats all. How nice of him I thought. I still remember that... a simple hello from a sports star, he could have walked right by and not said a word, but he didn't. I'll always remember that, Thanks Tom

I rember how much fun Tom Brookshier and Pat Summeral had doing those NFL telecasts. They had so much fun it made it fun for the audience. But boy did he love his Eagles.

I am from the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. My wife grew up in Philly. My Father-in-Law was an Eagles season ticket holder for 25+ years. He loved watching Brookshier play. We would try to stop by his establishment at the old Hilton in the parking lot of the Vet. I remember stories of how Sonny Jurgensen viewed Mr. Brookshier as a brother and their years as training camp roomates. Summerall and Brookshier were the NFL announcers I grew up with, they knew the game. They gave you facts not their opinions of what was happening. Rest In Peace Mr. Brookshier

Saw my 1st eagle game at municipal stadium.Would go to drexel field to see them practice, seeing pete pihos, bednarik, van buren, burke, muha, wileyand kilroy. One year I saw one guy who stood out of all the rest , consensus of my buddies,"he's too good looking to be an eagle" this turn out to be Brookshier,he became a neighborhood favorite,in those days the players were visible in west philly and Tom was always there with a hand shake and a smile. May he be greeted the same way, Rest In PEACE #40

He ranks right up there with Harry Kalas. I enjoyed listening to him as much as anyone there was. There are so many announcers that forget people who love and watch football know a lot about the game. He explained things but did not belittle the fans watching, as if they were watching a game for the first time. It was nice to be able to watch and listen to games with the sound turned up. He was one of the great ones and he will be missed.

I watched him destroy rookies in preseason practices at Hershey, Pa. where the Eagles used to train. After he messed the rookies up he then tried to teach them all he could to make them NFL cornerbacks. That was the kind of man he was.

As a kid Tom was my favorite player and I was at the Bears game when his playing days ended. I only had one chance to speak with him as we stood waiting for our cars at a parking garage in town. I said it was easier tackeling Jim Brown than getting our cars to come out. He boomed back I don't know about that and laughed, I will never
forget Tom.

In the early-mid-60's my Dad took me to meet Tom at a local appearance that he was making at the time; My Dad had been taking me to Eagles games for several years; After Tom finished his speech, my Dad took me up to meet Tom; I was about 10 years old; After shaking hands, I blurted out "I saw you when you broke your leg !!"; Tom paused and said "You hold your age well..."; Got a big laugh from those standing around with us; He seemed like a very nice guy, great player, he is missed.

As a kid who lived on the 4000 block of Sansom st. we use to see the Eagles outside the old hotel they stayed in at 40th Walnut and Tom was one of the kindest of all the players who would talk to us and encourage all of us when they had home games. He & Summeral were the greatest announcers of all times. I will never forget Brookie

Brookie: You were the spirit of Butkus and Bourbon Street. Collisions and adventurous fun. And throughout your wonderful life, there was a spirit about you that very few people really possess. You touched us all, athletes, coaches, writers and friends. Your laughter became our laughter. Your spirit became our spirit. And to those of us who knew you and enjoyed your presence in our lives, we were the lucky ones.

Condolences to Tom and his family and friends. I watched him play for the Eagles in the 50's and 60's and listened to him broadcast nationally and in Philly. To my great joy, I caddied for him a handful of times at his club. The stories of him playing against Jim Brown will be with me and his playing partners forever. One day he brought Jack Whitaker to play and it was one of the best days I had on the golf course. Thank you Tom and bless you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom while working at Aronimink Country Club in 1976. Myself and 2 other fellows were parking cars for a very large social function. On three occasions during the night Tom visited with us and spoke to us collectively for more than 20 minutes. Tom was so down to earth, genuine and extremely personable. He went out of his way to make our evening and treat us as friends.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Brookshier Family.

Barbara:
Since I first heard the news yesterday of the passing of Tom, my thoughts have been filled with you and your loss. I first met you and Tom in the 60s and always remembered what a great couple you made.
The December 1960 game was my first championship game. I had sold out my gameday programs by game time. Little did I know I also would get the see the Flyers, Sixers and Phillies go on to wins championships.
I first met Tom when he was handling sports at WCAU-TV. He was one of the first to
help put the Philadelphia Flyers on the map. He always made you feel so good. He was always glad to hear from you, even three weeks ago when Tom and I spoke on the phone. He was a great man who helped a lot of people over the years.
Please know there are many here who care that you are suffering. Though we can’t know your pain, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

As one of the original ball-boys for the 1960 Championship team, I remember "Brookie" as a fierce competitor on the field and nothing less than a class act off the field, both after retiring and in the broadcast booth. I'm sure #60, #25, #44 as well as his wife Barbara and the rest of the Eagles family will feel the void left by his passing. Look toward Franklin Field and give a smile to the man that everyone loved. Rest in peace, #40. God bless.
