Just saw this today (Nov 1, 2017), probably becausee my wife and I live in St. Paul, Minnesota so I don't see Norristown newspapers. Mr. Werkiser was a coach of mine both at Marshall St. Elementary and at Norristown High (track). I remember him as a serious/tough coach who was also the kindest of all the coaches at NHS. Sad to know he's gone.

My sympathies to the family. Mr. Werkeiser was my Driver's ED coach and Bill was in a few of my classes. I also played in many summer leagues with Mark. Good family!

To the Werkeiser family, we are so sorry for your loss as all us that knew "Werky" remember his ever lasting personality. A personality that gave us warmth, friendship, a mentor to emulate in our daily lives and a person we all respected. Looking back over the years, I often think about the talks we had about me coaching alongside you. I left Norristown School District to teach elsewhere but it would have been a priviledge and an honor to have sat next to you on that infamous basketball bench during those special and successful years at Norristown High "Glory Days". To Mrs. Werkeiser, Mark and the rest of your family, my wife and I want you to know we could not be any more proud of knowing such a great person as your husband, father and grandfather. We are no longer living in the area and would have preferred to say those words in person.
Always remember those expereinces we had all shared with Bill! They truly were special!

Werky,
A good friend. Our paths didn't cross
often after our school years, but when we did meet the conversation picked up as if we were
together yesterday. You are tribute to our

Bill "coach" was a great person. I always enjoyed our talks and his reminiscing about his days coaching basketball. He loved to hear about your children's sports no matter what they played football, basketball, baseball he couldn't wait to hear how the game went when you came in the next day to work. He always loved talking about his grandchildren games as well. Bill will be missed greatly. My deepest condolences go to Shirley and the family.

I attended Norristown H.S. and graduated in 1971. I always liked Mr. W. and thought he was a wonderful teacher and a truly wonderful guy. I thought about him just recently and was very sorry to hear of his passing. If there's a basketball team in Heaven, he'll be coaching it.
