Andrew Lawrence Keaton, 63, of Amissville, VA, unexpectedly passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, VA. He was born July 24, 1961, to the late Robert Samuel Keaton, Jr., and Nancy Louise Robison Keaton in Owego, NY.
Andrew is survived by his loving partner and wife of 32 years, Sharon Roberts Keaton, children; Dillan Miles Horn (Rhiannon) and Caleb Andrew Keaton; grandson, Lucus Horn; brother, Donald Duane Keaton (Sallie); sister, Janice Keaton Mernin (Matthew); sisters and brothers in law, Karen and Bill Rannings, Robb and Debb Terribery, Brian Roberts, and Jennifer Sue Wallis; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Andrew was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Doug Roberts.
Andy was a life member of the American Motorcyclists Association and past state coordinator and member of ABATE of VA (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments). He was an original member of the Minutemen Motorcycle Club, a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 907, Motorcycle Riders Foundation, and Culpeper Republican Party. President Trump lost one of his avid supporters upon Andy's passing. He continually encouraged voting and government participation.
In his youth, Andy was a Boy Scout and an active outdoorsman most of his life. He has canoed almost every mile of water in Virginia. He was an expert archer and enjoyed hunting. He loved to drag race his Pontiac Firebird, "White Lightning," around Northern Virginia in the early '80s.
Andy began road-striping after high school and owned RJ Merkel, Inc., in Brandy Station, VA, until his retirement in 2018. He ran the company while working alongside his crews and never asked an employee to do anything he wouldn't do himself. His mechanical and engineering expertise is well-known.
In 1994, he opened a motorcycle sales and repair shop, Minutemen Cycles, in Brandy Station. When the business sold, it went on to become "Classic Twins." As a member of the Northern Virginia Trail Riders Assoc, Andy was competitive in many off-road riding events, including matched time trials every year in Fort Valley, VA. At ABATE rodeos, he was known as the Slow Race King on his Harley Davidson Low Rider. Andy was respected by a wide range of friends in the motorcycling community for his legislative knowledge and work with our delegates and senators.
Above all, Andy was a devoted husband and father who loved his family very much. He was most proud of both his sons, who learned from him that hard work, honesty, and respect for others were the path to success. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the family's home, 15264 Lee Highway, Amissville, VA. There will be a time for words of remembrance at 3:00 pm. Public is welcome.
