Michael Ross

1945 - 2023

Michael Alan Ross, age 77, died on June 29th, 2023, in Manassas, Virginia. He was born in London, England on October 30, 1945, to Air Force Master Sergeant Edward Axel Ross and Joan Childerley Ross, both of whom predeceased him. After graduating from Northern Arizona, Michael taught high school in Boron, California, and worked for the Hartford Insurance Company in Connecticut. He moved to Lake Ridge, Virginia, in 1981 and built a long, successful career in print sales. Volunteerism was an important aspect of Michael's life. He was a Life Member of the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton VFD and served two terms as president. In retirement, he volunteered in the Cardiovascular Operating Room at Fairfax INOVA Hospital, and the National Air and Space Museum, in Washington D.C. An avid Chelsea soccer fan, he was also passionate about fly fishing, traveling, and gardening. Above all else he enjoyed spending his time with family and friends. Michael is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dana, and children, Linda Ross Pugel, Kate Westling Wetterhall, and Ben Westling. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Benjamin, Harrison, and Henry Pugel; Owen, Claire, and Rose Wetterhall; Layla and Charlotte Heisey, and Gretchen Westling. He also leaves behind his sister, Barbara Clooney, of Wales, UK, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd, Dale City VA 22191. The service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the social hall at OWL VFD, 1306 F Street, Woodbridge, VA.
