Mary Esther Cross

1942 - 2023

Mary Esther (Roth) Cross passed away peacefully at home in East Tawas on May 28, 2023 with her husband of 58 years at her side.
Mary was born on Dec. 7, 1942 to the late Leslie and Marie (Burnham) Roth in Mt. Morris. She was the ninth of 11 children. She graduated from Elizabeth Ann Johnson High School in Mt. Morris.
On June 19, 1965 she married Lawrance John Cross. She worked many different jobs over the years, most of them in retail. After retiring and moving to Tawas she volunteered in the gift shop at St. Joseph Hospital for a couple years until COVID wouldn't allow it. She loved being a volunteer.
Nothing was more important to Mary than spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed camping, a game of poker or euchre, going to the casino and reading.
Mary is survived by her husband, Larry; children, Eva (Steven) Finley, Lawrence "John" Cross Jr., and Michelle (Don) Rousseau; grandchildren, Karissa (Sean) Wesley, Craig (Alex) Finley, Keith Finley, Kevin (Lindsay) Finley, Brandon (Mary) Moll, Collin Cross, Nicholas Sivik, Landon Cross, Aiden Rousseau, and Lucas Rousseau; great grandchildren, Reid, Raelynne, Rielle, Rosalyn, Theadora, and Madeline; brothers, Fred (Shirley) Roth, Chris Roth, and Lawrence (Sharon) Roth; five brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special friends, Judy and Elma.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband's parents; brothers, Leroy, Leslie, Glenn and Clarence "Butch;" sisters, Donna, Elizabeth, and Carolyn; and multiple brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
The family appreciates Northeast Michigan Home Health Care and Compassus Hospice for the wonderful care they took of Mary.
Per Mary's wishes, she has been cremated. Her family will welcome family and friends at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9. Funeral will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
