Alfred Dale Shepherd
April 30, 1948 - June 28, 2023
Beaufort, South Carolina - On June 28th, 2023 Alfred Dale Shepherd passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born April 30, 1948, in Cincinnati, OH to John Willard Shepherd and June Lois McVicker Shepherd. After graduating from Great Valley Senior High School in 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, where he was stationed at Fort Lewis Washington as part of the Second Infantry Division Artillery. Shortly after enlisting, he was transferred to South Korea near the DMZ as a Field Artillery Operations & Intel Assistant. He spent the next two years in South Korea and was Honorably Discharged from the Army on June 3rd, 1970. He moved on to study banking at the American Institute of Banking from 1972-1976, continued his studies at the University of Virginia, and finally at the University of Delaware, Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He spent most of his professional career in banking and commercial lending. In 1974 he married the love of his life, Elaine, and they welcomed twin sons, Ryan and Eric, whom he considered his greatest accomplishments.
Fred had a gift of turning simple moments with those he loved into extraordinary memories. He shared his kind heart and larger-than-life personality with everyone he met. He filled our world with endless energy, humor, and love and he is sorely missed by those whose lives he touched. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Elaine Larson Shepherd; his sons, Ryan McVicker Shepherd and Eric Larson Shepherd; his 9-year-old grandson, Alexander Alfred Shepherd; as well as his older brother Jack Shepherd and younger sister Sally Moss. He is predeceased by his younger brother Steve Shepherd. It would be remiss not to also include their beautiful sheltie, Shelby.
Most of all, Fred was loyal and generous with his time as a husband and father. He loved and supported his wife and sons to the fullest and will forever be remembered as the quintessential family man-a legacy that he is very proud to have left and one his family is deeply grateful to carry on. From the moment they met over 50 years ago in Norwalk, CT, Fred loved his wife, and they will be forever soulmates.
Fred will be honored at The Parish Church of St Helena, 507 Newcastle St, Beaufort, SC 29902 on Tuesday July 11th at 10:00am.
