Allen and I were next door neighbor and became get friends over the years on Hilton Head Island, SC. This news is a shock to me. We were often golfing buddies. Allen and his son Boykin were the snake charmers in the neighborhood. Often coming over and dispatching a non-friendly type. I recall, Allen, my Dad and I were standing in the front driveway and along came a good sized copperhead and Allen pulled out his handkerchief placed over the snakes head ran his hand under the handkerchief and grabbed the snake just behind its head and asked does anyone have a knife. Dad gave him his banana knife, razor sharp, and Allen brought the snake head to a tree and took care of things. So many memories.
Allen and I were pals and stayed in touch. He called me when my wife died. He invited me to come up to North Carolina because he told me that I need to learn how to turn wood. He was right but it saddens me to no end that I didn't make that trip.
I miss you Pal, it would have been good for both of us. I know that now.
I love you Pal and I'm going to start turning wood. I just need to get the equipment!

I am so sorry for your loss Maggie. He was a great man. I am lucky to have met Allen and his fur babies, and to have gotten the chance to adopt a couple of my own. I always loved, and looked forward to, when he came in to the shop with his little wooden box, filled with tiny fur balls. I take my squirrels with me to work most days, and it amazes me how many people ask if I got them from the squirrel man. Who could ever forget him?! He seemed to be such a gentle soul, and his visits will be greatly missed. My memories of him, though too few, will always be treasured.

Known simply as the squirrel man at the local grocery store, he was quick to make friends with us there. We looked forward to seeing and being educated about the flyers while he popped in for a visit. I definitely remember Rosy, although I'm sure he brought others in at times.
My thoughts go out to those that lost a great friend and I pray that you find comfort in reading others memories of the lives he touched.

We will miss you Allen. I have been reflecting on our many trips together- mostly golf Pebble Beach several times, Annual Mid Pines tourney, , Ireland, Scotland, Cuba, Colorado, Atlanta, Myrtle Beach, Charleston NYC, and more. He was a genuine friend with a soothing answer for most challenges we all face. Maggie and family, Ger and I will be thinking about all of you during this tough time.

Many great days on the links and elsewhere with Allen. Also, Allen did a good job for me for many years as a financial advisor. He is gone too soon and will be missed.

We only met Allen around the end of 2021 at the YMCA. He had his round wood container with a leather strap which opened a conversation between us about the flying squirrels he raised and loved. Then we met his other love, dear Maggie! We've been blessed to get together a few times and never had enough time together! So sad we are for Maggie's loss and for the rest of us who will miss him much. God speed Allen.

I knew Allen from Biltmore Forest Country Club. I was a very long time employee there and worked in golf. He played golf there. He was funny, friendly. I worked at Augusta National during the Masters tournament one year. I ran into Allen at Augusta. It was the final day of the tournament. I wasn't sure how I was getting back to Asheville. Allen offered to give me a ride home. We had great conversation all the way back to Asheville. I felt like I really got to know him. He was one of the most interesting people I have ever met. My condolences to Maggie, he adored her, and to all his family.

I grew up with Childsy on the Island and lived close to Allen and Maggie in Port Royal. I always enjoyed visiting with them and they had a ferret which was wonderful!!
Much love to the whole Robinson family,

Allen was quirky in the best way, terrifyingly clever, always ready with a joke that somehow always seemed to make people not only laugh, but feel good about themselves, too. Allen was a very, very kind man and I'm sure I'm not the only one who received the benefit of some of his carefully chosen compliments, delivered privately and meant to make me feel honored. I've lived in several cities and homes, but in each one my guests will find an odd assortment of knick-knacks, little objects of peculiar and particular usefulness that Allen never failed to endow us all with at family events. Some are beautiful (his woodworked containers) and others were just neat, and they are all interesting just like all your conversations with Allen were going to be. I extend my most heartfelt condolences to his immediate family. There is no salve or replacement for the loss of the great Allen Robinson.
