Ann Skinner Obituary

Ann Skinner

November 23, 1956 - October 7, 2023

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - On October 7, 2023, Ann Davenport Skinner passed away after a 14-month battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Ann was preceded in death by her father Donald Davenport and her brother John Davenport. She is survived by her mother Barbara Davenport, sisters Mary Morton and Donna Koehler, and brothers Stephen Elwood, Daniel Elwood, and Martin Davenport. She is also survived by her husband Michael Skinner, daughters Kelly Skinner and Devon Skinner, and granddaughter Avery Mirenna.

Ann was born in St Paul, MN. She grew up and attended school in Middleton, WI. She soon moved to Boulder, CO where she met and married her husband. After a few years they relocated to the East Coast where Ann earned her degree from Douglas College at Rutgers University, graduating Summa Cum Laude and winning the Bunting Award as an outstanding student in her class. Shortly after, they settled in Yardley, PA. where they raised their family for over 20 years before moving to Hilton Head, SC.

Ann passed away in Ocean City, NJ in a family beach cottage after receiving treatment in Philadelphia, PA. She passed peacefully in the company of family and close friends.

Ann made it her mission to improve the lives of others. She worked in a variety of fields before dedicating her life to being a wonderful and loving mother. An avid reader, she later embraced a passion for promoting learning and literacy which she pursued until her retirement.

Ann exhibited a life-long joy for the natural world. She and Mike met through her love of skiing, an enthusiasm she shared with her daughters as well. She was a talented gardener, a gift she extended to others by helping design and plant gardens for a wide array of individuals, friends and family. She had a passion for exploring the natural wilderness. Whether hiking on a trail, climbing a mountain, paddling a canoe, or rafting down a river, Ann was at her happiest when outside. Lastly, whenever possible, her favorite mode of transportation was via bicycle. This was a constant in all phases of her life and stayed an activity she enjoyed up until the time of her illness.

Ann remained a warm, caring person who was concerned about others even as she struggled to survive. She was always known for her radiant smile, which she continued to share with each and every person she came in contact with, right up until the very end of her life. There is never enough time, but Ann was taken far too soon, and we will continue to love and hold her in our thoughts until we see her again.

A memorial service will be held at the Yardley United Methodist Church in Yardley, PA on November 11, 2023, at 3:00 PM. A link to attend the service online will be provided at a later date.

Ann was my sister, she approached life with optimum and hope until the day she passed. Ann was athletic and graceful, I laughed and teased her and pointed out how graceful she was walking down the street until she tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. On the day Ann passed I went for a walk and tripped over a crack in the sidewalk. Sisters

Ann was my employee and great friend! Her love of the students at The Literacy Center was unsurpassed! She was a unique compassionate person who loved her family, HHI, her family's home place, the outdoors and Murphy and that cat. She will be greatly missed and our appreciation and love for her is in our hearts forever.
