Carmen DeCecco Obituary
January 10, 1965 - July 19, 2024
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Carmen Hawkins DeCecco passed away on July 19, 2024. She was the beloved wife of John DeCecco III and stepmother of Dalton DeCecco and Claudine Charon and grandmother of Olivia and Sophia. Carmen was born January 10, 1965, in Richmond, VA to Robert Preston Hawkins III and the late Susan Martin Hawkins, and sister to the late Robert Preston Hawkins IV.
Carmen was a graduate of Brown University, Providence, RI where she majored in Creative Writing. Her career was in marketing, advertising and communications. Carmen's passion for creative writing led to the production of several short films and screen plays. Raised in Hilton Head, she returned to the island after a decade of living in Providence, RI. Upon moving back she wrote a regular column in the Island Packet and contributed often to local magazines. She loved taking long walks and spending time with her beloved beagle Sammie. For the last 10 years, she was responsible for communications and marketing for the Italian American Club of Hilton Head Island.
A celebration of life event will be determined at a future date.

Dearest Johnny ... Carmen and I lost touch some years back although I never forgot either of you and thought of her often. I just discovered Carmen passed away last year and my heart aches for myself and for you - as you stood by her through some very challenging times. I never stopped caring about both of you so please know - I hope you are faring well above and beyond your loss. Carmen was a large part of my life during our time together at Brown. Without her, I would not have had the love and support to get through our programs. Peace and much love to you, always.

Having lived on the west coast of the United States, all my life...then marrying and having children, grands and greats I had a soft spot in my heart when Bob and Susan's name was mentioned as well as Rob and Carmen. In later life, my wife, Eileen, communicated with Carmen on Facebook and after Susan's passing became aware of Carmen's cancer. We kept all the family in our prayers and hoped that Carmen's situation would change and she could resume her active life with Johnny there on the Island. Johnny, our heartfelt sympathy to you, to Bob, to the nieces, Elizabeth and Preston Ann, you continue to be role model to. May God's love give you peace ... until that one day when we will alll be reunited for eternity on the other side of the veil. Johnny some of our best memories spending time on HH was with you and Carmen. We still laugh to this day as we think back on some fun dinners. I also enjoyed Carmen's passion and perspective on many of her FB posts. She was a beautiful person and we will miss her.

I have life long memories of Carmen and Rob, (that’s what I called him since we had the same name), with Elizabeth and me visiting at our grandmother Mimi’s house, Aunt Mary and Susie next door, lots of fun as young children.
