Cynthia Long Sherrill Mrs. Cynthia Long Sherrill, 60, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 in Charlotte. The family received friends from 9:30 ñ 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010 in the main sanctuary of Central Church of God. A funeral service followed from the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Greg Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Mrs. Sherrill was born April 19, 1949 in Mecklenburg County, NC, a daughter of Virgie Long of Mint Hill, NC and the late Charles W. Long. Cynthia was first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ and sought peace and comfort in reading God's Word. She and her husband, Robert, were active members of Low Country Community Church in Bluffton, SC and previously at Central Church of God in Charlotte, NC. So many lives have been touched by Cynthia's unconditional love and support. Over the course of 30 years, Cynthia taught Spanish language classes mostly at Independence High School and Butler High School. She enjoyed traveling to various parts of the world with her students and learning more about different cultures. Cynthia was also a long-time breast cancer survivor before her cancer returned in 2004. She was a fighter and would never have considered her battle a loss. God has been so good to her and now Cynthia has received her healing. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Sherrill is survived by her beloved husband, Robert M. (Bob) Sherrill; children, Amber Sherrill Smith (Daniel) and Brandon Sherrill all of Mint Hill; step-daughter, Leta Callahan (Scott) of Olive Branch, MS; sister, Karen Long Sellers of Charlotte; brother, Michael (Mickey) Long of Grover, SC; grandson, Grayson Smith; step-grandchildren, Jeremy Shinall (Amanda) and Maria Roberts (Jon); and by three step-great grandchildren, Gracie Free, and Brenna and Kiley Shinall. Dearest family of Cynthia I praise God for her life and the honor to have known her. From the singles group at Garr and the gatherings at her home to our marriages and watching our children grow I praise God for His Life in us. Our friendship was a gift to us to share a sense of family that is only a foretaste of what she is realising now. Home, what a wonderful place to be. We miss you Cynthia but we will be together again soon. The family and friends you left behind are blessed with the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Family, you are complete in Him. She smiles in peace. I love you all.

Dear Cynthia's Family, Cynthia became a dear frien at Camp Lurecrest in July 1964. We wrote each othe for a few years and then when I was probably 19 and on a visit to NC to see my realatives she introduced me to my first Whopper hamburger. We had such fun that day and we kept in touch for a couple years. I have never forgetten her and her sweet way and her dedication to our Loving Lord and Savior. I wish we had continued to keep in touch but I know we will see each other again someday. My Prayers go out to all of you, her family, from someone who has never forgotten your loved one. Cynthia you were an amazing person, a wonderful friend and an inspiration to all of us who were fortunate enough to know you. I was asked by your mother to be with you when you received the news of your father's passing last year, and on Thursday night this week I had a beautiful vision of you as I was praying before bed. I pictured you years ago at your wedding as your father walked you down the aisle to marry your beloved husband Bob. Then I realized that it was your father who was to walk you down the aisle again... this time to walk with you through the gates of heaven to meet Jesus. When I heard that you passed away early the next morning I knew that you were at peace. Sing with the choirs of heaven Cynthia, and dance with the angels - you are home.

Cynthia and I were BFF's at the age of 1. We shared many "firsts" and made many funny faces for the camera during that time. Then she and her family moved away, but they were close enough for Friday night sleep-overs at alternate houses for years. Many a Barbie was dressed and many a kitchen mess was made as we "surprised" our parents with Saturday morning breakfasts. High school and boyfriends replaced those times, but there were double-dates to be done. We even found ourselves at the same college. Then marriages, miles, careers, and children kept us physically apart for decades; but we stayed in touch with notes and phone calls (especially the obligatory Christmas morning What-did-Santa-bring-you? phone call that we made 'til we were almost fifty), regaling each other with exploits of spouses, offspring, and ourselves. This past summer she sent me pictures of the Cutest Grandchild Ever and those adorable twins, and she seemed so happy.
Last November, she and Bob and Mrs. Long came to my mother's 90th birthday party, and we laughed about our escapades through the years. We made plans to get together soon and make fun of the hairstyles in our high school annuals. Although we can't do that now, there are all those good memories. Cynthia may have had a short life, but it was an excellent one. She will be very, very missed.

I just want to say that I am thinking and praying for all of you. One of my fondest memories is when you all were in Wilmington vacationing, and you all happened to be there at the hospital when Jordan was born. Cynthia was so excited! You all were. It was a very special time. I wish that I could be there tomorrow for the service. I am sure that it will be beautiful. God hold you all close and "hold your hearts". Much love, respect and prayers, Jamie Lawing Clark

We have fond memories of Cynthia and Amber when we met at our house for the trip to Germany in the Winter of 1998 to discuss the German Exchange Program. Cynthia was such an energetic and fun loving person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob, Amber and Brandon at this very sad time.

Dear Virgie, Bob, Karen, Amber, and Brandon,
I pray that the Lord will hold you close to him and squeeze you tight. He will give you peace and comfort that no one else can give. I know that Cynthia is dancing for the Lord and He has a special job for her where she is using her caring and loving ways just as she did when she was hear. I love you all and I will keep you in my prayers. I am here if you need me.
