Donald L. Kelsey
January 15, 1929 - July 29, 2022
Rockport, Maine - DONALD L. KELSEY Jr. of Bluffton, South Carolina and Warren, Me. passed away on July 29, 2022 at the SUSSMAN HOUSE in Rockport, Maine. The son of DONALD L. KELSEY Sr. and CLARA THOMAS KELSEY he was born on January 15, 1929 in Rockland, Maine. He grew up and lived in Maine until retiring to South Carolina in 2003. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1947 and the University of Maine in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for the Quaker Oats Company as a sales representative covering most of Maine and part of New Hampshire for 20 years. In 1971 he decided to open his own business KELSEYS AUDIO-VIDEO selling electronics. He later opened an appliance store across the street KELSEYS APPLIANCE- VILLAGE where he eventually moved the entire business. Don was an accomplished athlete excelling in baseball, basketball and golf. He was a member of the SAMOSET GOLF CLUB and club champion at NORTHPORT and ROCKLAND GOLF CLUBS. He was voted All Tourney in the Southern Maine State Schoolboy Basketball Tournament. He went on to play basketball for the University of Maine as captain of the Freshman team and played first string varsity as a Sophomore. He spent many happy hours at his camp in KOKAJO, Me. with family and friends fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. He is survived by his business partner and wife of 46 years, MERLA TAYLOR KELSEY, his 4 Daughters, Donna and Tom Weber of Bangor, Me., Dana Smoak of Travelers Rest, SC, Tina and Bob Ellis of Cushing, Me., Karen and Errol Littlefield of Rockland, Me. and his step-sons Scott Farley of Washington, Me. and Barry Farley of Rockport and Lily Bay, Me. He was predeceased by his parents and his son-in-law Neal Smoak. He leaves behind five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Don defied the odds by surviving stage four renal cancer for 6 years but was unable to conquer a second stroke.
