Ellie Cushman Obituary

Ellie Louise Cushman of Port Royal, SC was born September 19, 2012. She weighed 4 lbs 7 oz and was born at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Our precious daughter passed away from this life into the arms of the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at our home. Ellie is survived by parents, Chris and Charlotte Cushman, seven siblings, Zachariah, Brooke, Talley, Brant-Fowler, Hart, Susan and Taggart Cushman as well as extended family. We invite our friends, family and community to join us for Ellie's viewing and services. The viewing will be held at Saul's Funeral Home in Bluffton on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 5 until 7pm. Come celebrate her life with us on Monday, December 31st at 11:00 am at Community Bible Church of Beaufort. Burial will be held at the Beaufort National Cemetery at 12:00 pm. We look forward to talking to you personally at a reception immediately following burial at the church in the Fellowship Hall. The pneumonia Ellie had developed proved to be too much for her weakened immune system. We are grateful to have been able to enjoy her on this earth and spend our Christmas together. We look forward to "flying away" to meet her one day ~ as she is whole and healed in heaven with our Savior. Diagnosed with a serious chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 18 in utero, Ellie was a precious reminder of God's grace in many people's lives. Most babies diagnosed with this do not survive birth, and those who do are born with severe health problems, often involving malformations of the heart and other major organs. They may not be able to breathe without assistance, and they may require multiple surgeries before they can even leave the hospital. However, as more parents choose to keep these children, and as more medical professionals agree to treat these little patients, we are seeing more and more children surviving and thriving in spite of serious medical disabilities. For more of Ellie's story please go to: http://sensiblemom.wordpress.com/. Psalm 121 I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - He who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life. The Lord will watch over your coming and going now and forever more. Instead of flowers, we would be honored if you would donate to the Ronald McDonald House of Charleston ~ 81 Gadsden Street, Charleston, SC 29401. Or please help fund research and education about Trisomy 18 at the Support Organization For Trisomy 18 (SOFT) at trisomy.org. Our friends Martin and Diane Sauls of Sauls Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements http://www.saulsfh.com/.
