Harry Alford Obituary

Harry Alford Harry Alford, 83, of Sea Pines in Hilton Head passed away on April 5th. The cause of death was a broken heart, after the loss of his beloved wife, Ann. He was born on August 22, 1932 in Gay, Georgia. Following a stellar basketball and baseball career in high school, Harry tried out for the major leagues and had the opportunity to briefly play for a New York Yankees farm team. His love for baseball never left him and he particularly followed the Atlanta Braves. Harry served for two years in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, working in a psychological operations unit. Following the war, he attended West Georgia College and finished at Georgia State University with a degree in Finance. Although his love was the stock market, he was wooed by General Motors and worked for them for over thirty years as an Industrial Engineer. Harry's passion for golf, along with his wife's love of the beach, brought them to Hilton Head for retirement. They resided here for the past twenty-four years and were active members of Sea Pines Country Club. They attended St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church where Harry volunteered many years helping with finance. Harry is survived by his daughter Marianne (Paul) Osentoski, his son Ryburn (Ry) and grandson Matthew. He is also survived by his brother Cecil (Yvonne), along with his children Leslie White, Lisa Freshi and Fitz Alford, all from metro Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew by the Sea United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 1:30pm. Memorial gifts are requested in lieu of flowers: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 269, Alexandria, VA 22314. Programs for Exceptional People (PEP) 10 Oak Park Drive Building C-1, Box 2, Hilton Head, SC. 29926. Deep Well 80 Capital Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. Ry and Maryann- so sorry to hear about your DAD. I have many fond memories of your folks.

April 14, 2016

We were deeply sorry to hear of your loss and please know that you and Ry are in our thoughts and prayers. We first met Harry and Ann during our work assignment in Michigan in the early 70's and have enjoyed our friendship since that time. Harry and I enjoyed many rounds of golf together and we were fortunate to have traveled to Europe with them in the 80's. We shall miss them both very much. Our hearts thoughts and prayers are with you as you walk the path of sorrow for your Father. We know this path well as Ken's father went to be with our Lord January 26, 2016. Your Father will greet you with open arms when you reach his height in Heaven. Until then, remember those two kisses you exchanged and his love for you will carry you through.
