Helen Knepp Obituary

Helen D. Knepp Perhaps You Knew Her: Helen Dippery Knepp died at her home on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Perhaps you knew her growing up in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. She married Bill in December, 1955. Perhaps you met her during the 21 years they served on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps or the 34 years they have lived in Beaufort. Maybe you knew her as a volunteer Red Cross Gray Lady at Beaufort Naval Hospital, or a Team Mother for the Laurel Bay youth sporting events. Perhaps she greeted you during her years of service for Doctors Swan, Shoney, Pearce, Kruger and Burris. Perhaps you shared a bridge table as her partner or opponent during her 40 plus years as a player. Perhaps she greeted you at the First Presbyterian Church on a Sunday morning or during a trip with the church's Prime Timers Group, or as a good neighbor on Riverside Drive on Lady's Island. Perhaps in the last 3 years your caring has come as flowers, a card, as food or a phone call. THANK YOU!! Many of you knew her as the mother of Robert, Daniel, David and Patty; as the loving grandmother of Bobby, Billy, Morgan, C.J. and Joey. What a lady, what a mother, what a wife. We loved her deeply. Perhaps you did also. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort, S.C. Memorials may be made to Island Hospice, 1211 Newcastle St., Suite D, Beaufort, S.C. 29902 or First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1226, Beaufort, S.C. 29901. Copeland Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Helen was a wonderful person. We grieve for the empty space she has left in our hearts. Her pain has gone. The love she gave will live on. How lucky all we have been to have known Helen. And you - most blessed - to have known her best. You are in our thoughts, our prayers, and in our hearts.

Mr. Knepp, Patty, and Knepp family,
How saddened I am for your loss and for Helen's long journey. I know you are consoled in that she is at peace. She will be missed by so many lives that she touched. I'm sure her final journey was joyful in the celebration of Robert's birthday with his mother at his side. I truly believe that there was much in heaven to celebrate! What fabulous childhood memories I have of my Laurel Bay days and the Knepp family! Thank you for sharing your love with others. May the days ahead be blessed and may you find comfort in knowing that so many thoughts and prayers are with you.

To all of you precious Knepps, You've been part of our family for so long, I've forgotten when I first heard my mom mention your names. You were all such wonderful friends to my mom and dad, Lea and Karl Sutker, and to Dick and me as well. Helen asked me many years ago if I'd share my mother with her, and we were all so touched. She and Mom were so close, Helen was almost like a kid sister to Mom. And she became a grandmother to you kids as well, especially to Patty. We will miss her terribly, but know that she is no longer in pain, and is with God and with the sons she loved so much.

Bill, I'm so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. My heart aches for your loss. But in reading her notice, I see that you had the joy of grandchildren to cheer and bless her (and you) through the later years of life. Thank God for those blessings. Nothing lessens the pain of losing your best friend, except the memories of the beautiful life you shared. And I hope you can reach out to them now to ease you and your children through this pain.
And I will never forget your part in making my life what it is, with my best friend. All my best prayers are with you. Carol Griswold
