Marilyn and family, I wish to send my sincerest condolences of the passing of James. I apologize for not being able to attend the funeral but had medicals issues of my own and could not travel.
I do want to honor my friend James by remembering just what he meant to me.
After serving together at the Naval hospital , Portsmouth, Va., I eventually moved to Beaufort where James introduced me to a whole new lifestyle of which I became accustomed. I met his family and they took me in as if I was one of them. In fact Bobby was kind enough to give me a job.
James and I have a lot of good memories together of which I will never forget. He was always positive about everything and so sure he could do anything he wanted to . I was amazed at his talents and skills. He was the Jim Bowie or Davey Crocket of the Low Country as far as I was concerned. He was just great!
If life was a book, James' would be a novel and what a read it would be. I was so fortunate to be in a few of the chapters.
So long my friend and I will see you some day soon on the other side.

James Cooler was a wonderful person. He loved Beaufort and he and his beautiful wife collected many historical artifacts and treasures. James was kind, generous and fun. Our hearts go out to Marilyn and family.

Knew James and the family for many years. Really, my father“s family was from Hardeeville and his from Ridgeland and they were cousins. James was always smiling. May he Rest In Peace.

I am James' only sister. It's a wonder I can walk because when I was a child James carried me everywhere on his shoulders. We were so alike. We loved scuba diving, Lemon martinis, ate sweets everyday and still skinny as a stick! When I lost my father at only 21 years old James became my substitute Dad. He will always be in my heart and my hero! Meet you on the other side.
I had a brother
But now my brother is gone
Oh, I search the sky for a glimpse of his blue eyes
And there I find his image in the clouds
If I could wish, wish it away
I would bleed out my knees and pray
If I could give all that I have
To bring him back today
These are but dreams,
as sad as it seems - E Vedder
