John Dunn, Jr.

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - With great sadness, the family of John S. Dunn Jr. announces his passing on February 14, 2025, at the age of 80 in Hilton Head, SC. John was born in Augusta, GA, and graduated from Richmond Academy High School in 1963. He attended Augusta College and Georgia State University before joining the Air National Guard, where he trained as a navigator and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He later became a Civil Engineer, was promoted to Captain, and served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 2004, when he moved to Hilton Head.

John was an avid sailor, traveler, and history enthusiast who enjoyed camping and genealogy. He was known for his quiet, adventurous spirit and deep love for his wife, family, and dog.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maureen S. Dunn; his brother, Stanley S. Dunn (Susan); his niece, Pamela D. Daly (Christopher); his nephew, Allen R. Dunn (Dana); and his great-nieces, Kathleen, Sarah and Emily Daly, and Alexandra Dunn. He was predeceased by his parents, John S. Dunn Sr. and Vera Beggs Dunn.

A memorial service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC, on March 8, 2025 at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Agape Hospice Care or Wounded Warriors.
