John Miller Obituary

SSgt. John T. Miller Lady's Island, SC SSgt. John T. Miller, (US Air Force Retired) 91, of Lady's Island and husband of Ida B. Miller, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at MUSC, Charleston.He was born August 19, 1926, in Charleston, SC, a son of the late James and Rosa Miller. He was educated in the public schools of Charleston County and was a graduate of Burke High School. He then attended South Carolina State College until beginning his military career. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served for one enlistment period before joining the US Air Force as a photographer. He retired in 1969 with 21 years of faithful service to his country. During his military career he served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War and traveled extensively. After retiring, he moved to Beaufort, SC. He joined the First African Baptist Church of Beaufort and served on the Board of Deacons. His interest in education led him to being elected as a member of the Beaufort County School Board and served as its' 1st African American Chairman. He served as Executive Director of Lowcountry Community Action Agency, Walterboro, SC. He was a member of the SC State University Beaufort-Jasper Alumni Association, the NAACP, the American Legion Post 207 and Tuskegee Airmen Association. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ida Bee Miller; his children: Raymond Peter Miller and Kimberly Diannah Miller; one grandchild, Tatiauna Rashawn Miller; one great-grandchild, London V. Siphengpnet; a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Thursday, January 18, 2018 at First African Baptist Church, Beaufort. Burial with full military honors will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery. Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals is in charge of the arrangements.

My deepest condolences to the family. Mr. Miller will always be cherished in my heart . Mr. Miller exemplified class and poise and never met a stranger. Kimberly and Peter my heart is with you both. Mrs. Miller my deepest condolences and prayers are with you always. The two of you will always remain special to me with the highest regards and love.
