My mother with a few of her favorite things.

My mother's beauty was unmistakable after any amount of time knowing her. Just look at her and see how lovely she was (at any age). But the real beauty lay inside, her splendor emerging frequently and generously in love, concern and empathy with extraordinary and enviable ease.

Mother loved people and animals alike and any who knew her was blessed in many ways. The original obituary photo of Mother sitting in the garden with her bichon Cutie was cropped to reveal her wonderful smile but not her entire face nor the pastoral setting of her treasured garden (for anywhere she was seemed lovelier merely by her presence). The recent photo I included features her elegant face in the company of two possessions she adored with unremitting passion and great care: her pets and flowers.

My mother was wise, richly intelligent, vibrant and resourceful by nature, endlessly creative (in fine art, business and letter-writing), as charming and charismatic as any diplomat... a thoroughly beautiful human being who left her many friends and family behind just three days before her birthday. Before she died I got a chance to tell her that whatever good I had inside—what empathy, humor, charm, concern for and generosity toward strangers, and love for humanity—originated in her (and munificently passed on to me).

I cherished my mother with all my heart and I'll miss her every day of my life until its end when only then do I hope to see my beloved mother again in the presence of our Creator and embrace her with tears of joy this time.
