Leonard Bloom Obituary

Leonard (Len) Bloom Leonard (Len) Bloom, 83, of Hilton Head Island died Friday, June 14, 2013. He was born December 29, 1929 in Cambridge Mass. Len lived in Somerville Mass., Newton Mass., Needham Mass., St. Louis MO, Ridgefield CT, Alpharetta GA, and most recently Hilton Head Island SC. He worked in various technology companies, including Microwave Communications, exporting and Marketing. The companies included, Raytheon, Microwave Associates, Unitrode, Monsanto, Dage Corp. and Electromagnetic Sciences. He travelled worldwide extensively to Europe, Asia and South America as well as United States. Len's university degrees included BSEE and MBA degrees, both from Northeastern University of Boston MA. Len had a sense of adventure and in his early college years hitchhiked to Nebraska in the summer and worked as a hired hand on farms. He was impressed by the tornados in that area. His brother recalls what great shape he was in when he returned. Pitching hay evidently was the original physical workout session. Through the years, Len had to fight various life threatening diseases and medical problems. The family called him the bionic man because of various body part removal and replacements. He finally succumbed to Pott's disease and complications. He loved both playing golf and watching golf on TV. He enjoyed performing in a Barber Shop Chorus in Hilton Head Island. Len also served in the Board of Adjustments for Hilton Head Island. He is survived by Sylvia Farrington Bloom, his wife of 59 years, his brother Harvey and Elaine Bloom of New Hampshire, his daughter Audrey and son in law Robert Burns of Hilton Head Island SC, daughter Diane Bloom of Lyons NY, son Leonard Jr. and daughter in law Lynn Marron Bloom of Stratford CT, granddaughter Tessa Shvedoff of San Francisco CA, granddaughter Alison and Jozef Senna of San Diego CA, grandsons George and Philip Bloom of Stratford CT, great granddaughters Jocelyn Senna, Isabelle Senna and Savannah Senna of San Diego and Tatiana Shvedoff of San Francisco; also nephews Jeffrey Bloom and his wife Karen, David Bloom and his wife Tracy, and John Donovan and his wife Deborah. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 19 at 9:30am at Six Oaks Memorial Park. Donations may be made in his honor to Tidewater Hospice, 10 Buckingham Plantation Dr., Suite A, Bluffton SC 29910.
