Samuel J. Najarian, 87, of Sun City, Bluffton, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at his home. Sam was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 21, 1925. He was the son of Michael and Zabel Najarian who migrated to the United States in 1921. Sam spent all of his early years living in various sections of Brooklyn. As a youth he loved and participated in many sports year-round. He attended Good Shepherd Parochial School and Brooklyn Technical High School. During WWII and immediately upon graduating from high school, Sam enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was assigned to the European theatre of operations, where he flew combat bombing missions over Germany. Upon discharge from the Air Force at wars' end, Sam returned to his roots in Brooklyn. He attended Brooklyn College, where he met his wife Helga, and The City College of New York School of Technology where he received his professional engineering degree. Sam worked in the field of Consulting Engineering, both in this country and abroad, until he retired in 1988. In 1997, Sam and his wife Helga moved from their home in Norwalk, CT to Sun City, SC where he was heavily involved in the community activities and sports. He was a member of many clubs including the tennis club, golf club, bocce club, and the poker club. He was also a member of the veterans club and the upbeats club. Up to the time of his passing, Sam did volunteer work at the Okatie Outpatient Center. He also devoted much of his time to volunteering at the Mighty 8th AF Museum in Pooler, GA where he performed as a docent and tour guide. Sam was a strong advocate of attempting to instill into the present generations some of the principles, ideals, and merits of his own generation. To Sam's family .
We met Sam at the 8th Air Force Museum a couple years ago where he was our docent. We enjoyed his presentation and talked to him afterwards about his experiences. He was a facinating gentleman and we have never forgotten that meeting. We feel honored to have met him.
He was truely a fine example of the greatest generation.

Helga ... so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. We both enjoyed our times with you both around the Shore and Country tennis courts and grill. We very much enjoyed Sam's appearence on the WW II veterans tribute on ETV a few months back. We are very thankful for his service to our country. Dick and Linda King

Helga.....So sorry to learn of Sam's passing. We played tennis with Sam at Shore & Country Club in the 70's and had many fun times. We moved from Ct. in 1976 and to Hilton Head in 1982. Did not know you lived so close. Peggy passed away in 2002. Prayers to you and the family today.

Helga, My condolences to you and your family. I am so pleased that I and Marge Keeney had the opportunity to have lunch with you and Sam, and Ellie and John at Sun City last year. It was so much fun reminiscing old times in Connecticut. Warmest regards, John Sponza

Our deepest sympathies to the Najarian family. Our hearts go out to you.
We have good memories of Sam on the tennis courts at Shore and Country and of course when he marched in the parade as "Uncle Sam".
