Virginia Meyer Obituary

Virginia "Ginny" Adelaide Meyer

July 5, 1945 - April 8, 2025

Sarasota, Florida - Mrs. Virginia "Ginny" Adelaide Meyer, age 79, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida.

Born on July 5, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, Ginny was the daughter of Heber and Kathryn Hizar. She grew up in Birmingham, Michigan alongside her siblings, Tom and Peg.

Ginny began her professional journey working in a women's clothing store, where her personable nature and keen sense of style quickly became evident. Her passion for connecting with people led her to pursue a career in real estate. She built a successful and respected career as a Realtor. For 21 years, she worked with Charles Reinhart Real Estate, where she developed lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike. Even after retiring and relocating to South Carolina, Ginny maintained her brokerage license and remained engaged in the real estate community.

Her dedication to service extended beyond her professional life. Ginny was an active member of several heritage organizations including The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), where she participated in the Emily Geiger Chapter; the National Society Daughters of the Union 18611865; and The General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD). She also found joy in being part of a local book club and supported school literacy initiatives through book drives and volunteer work.

Ginny is deeply missed and remembered every day with love by her husband of 58 years, William Meyer; daughters Deborah Meyer and Pamela (Mike) Meyer Sosnin; and grandchildren Evan Meyer; Emily and Olivia Boshaw; and Wes, Tessa, Kathryn, and Alex Sosnin.

She was preceded in death by her son John Meyer; siblings Tom Hizar and Peg Hanson; and parents Heber and Kathryn Hizar.

Ginny cherished life and loved being with her immediate and extended family, and her dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Hampton Hall Clubhouse, 1 Hampton Hall Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emily Geiger Daughters of the American Revolution, PO Box 1187, Bluffton, SC 29910-1187.

Ginny was one of first friends when I joined the Bluffton chapter of the DAR. We shared a love of reading and had such enjoyable discussions of our current reads. She was an invaluable member of our group and I shall be forever glad to have met her. You will be so missed Ginny.
