Wayne Fredrick Obituary

Wayne Douglas Fredrick

March 20, 1946 - December 7, 2024

Hilton Head, South Carolina - After fighting valiantly against Interstitial Lung Disease, Wayne D Fredrick went home to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, on December 7, 2024. In his own words, "I lived an amazing and blessed life!"

Wayne was born in northern New Jersey to Richard Dudley Murray, a Navy pilot, and his wife Marilyn Eastwood. Sadly, his father died at the age of 26 when Wayne was three years old. His mother married Raymond Fredrick who treated Wayne like his own son. He graduated from Park Ridge High School in 1964, then attended The Georgia Institute of Technology where he "majored in fraternity" at Sigma Phi Epsilon. He served in the U.S. Army in Thailand in 1969/1970. After his honorable discharge he worked several years in the family printing business in New York City. In 1973 he joined Alside/Associated Materials, spending the next thirty-five years with the company in various positions before retiring in 2008 as Executive Vice President of Sales. Wayne was honored with a "Lifetime Leadership Award" in the Home Improvement Industry.

Wayne and his wife, Ruth, loved to travel and enjoyed hosting his customers' business incentive trips. After retirement, together they were able to fulfill most of their travel 'bucket list.' Wayne was an avid walker and took up tennis and golf again after moving to Moss Creek in Hilton Head, SC. He loved sports, his favorites being college football/basketball, NASCAR, and NHRA, and was a diehard New York Yankee fan. Wayne enjoyed his cars and motorcycles; however, his passion was sailing. He always believed his love of sailing kept him sane and healthy during all his travel and job pressures. He was also a Coast Guard-licensed Captain. Believing in community involvement, he was active in community associations and boards every place he lived and was active in the churches he attended.

Wayne believed the most significant decision he made in life was the day he became a follower of Jesus Christ. It made a huge impact on his life's goals, attitudes, and what really was important to him. In spite of the sadness of leaving those he cared for, Wayne knew that he would be in a better place.

Wayne was preceded in his death by his loving grandparents, Fred and Claire Bonniwell (Murray), Papa Joe and Sarah Rego, and Walter and Lilian Fredrick; by his parents Richard Dudley Murray (father), Raymond Fredrick (Dad), and Marilyn Fredrick (mother); by his younger brother Raymond Fredrick; and by all of his loving aunts and uncles.

Wayne leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 34 years Ruth Fredrick; his son Eric Fredrick (Katie) and grandkids Gavin and Kaylee; daughter Becky Moody (Alex) and grandkids Braden, Bryce, Cody and Danielle; his brothers James Fredrick (Dorothy) and Jay Fredrick; Ruth's son Chett Nelson (April) and grandkids Julia, Jenna, Jaedyn, and Legend; Ruth's daughter Stephanie Geitgey (Bobby) and granddaughter Kelsey plus grand dog Brody; his cousin, Ann Winterhalder; and his dad's loving wife, Nancy Fredrick.

A memorial service will be held January 11, 2025, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon at Low Country Community Church, 801 Bluffton Parkway, Bluffton, SC. A reception for friends and family will follow at the Moss Creek Clubhouse. Wayne will be interred at a later date at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military funeral honors.

In lieu of flowers, Wayne requested donations to Samaritan's Purse, www.SamaritansPurse.org.

To Ruth and Family,
To say that Wayne was a giant would be a massive understatement but he sure was !!!
I met him almost 35 years ago and he continued to mentor me in many phases of the building materials industry while at Alside. I´m sure I was not alone.
I will never forget what a wonderful soul he was and how he always had a positive disposition on everything !!
In addition to the many trips together while with Alside, he was always just a phone call away.
I remember our mini discussions while you were building your new house after he retired. Up
He will be sorely missed and thought of always. One of a kind !!!
Wishing you, peace and comfort as you remember the great memories you shared together.

Wayne and I were friends since 1957. We had a lot of fun hanging out in high school and even during college during vacations. We even went into the army at the same time. After that, we each kind of went our own way, but we kept in touch all these years. He even honored Kristen and me by accepting our request to be our son´s godfather. I will miss him so much and regret that I wasn´t able to see him when he got sick. I had planned to set up a visit this coming spring, not realizing the disease was progressing so quickly. He bravely refused to complain to me, accepting the unfortunate fate that he knew would come eventually. I´m sure his devotion to Jesus Christ was a great comfort to him, and I know he will surely reap the rewards of a life well lived as he enters the next and everlasting phase of existence.

Wayne was a dear heart and will be missed here. I'll never forget the great job they did for the garden tour. He got his group to set up such a fun bar. His smile there was huge.

Wayne, we are heartbroken but thankful that you can breathe easily and in no pain. You left me the greatest gift of all...our son and daughter. Your lasting legacy are Eric, Becky and our five beautiful Grandchildren. You indeed did live an amazing and blessed life. I cherish the memories we made when we were raising our young family and so grateful we remained friends all these years. Ruth, you indeed were the love of his life. May you find solace in knowing that.

Ruth...my condolence to you at this sad time. Not more than a few weeks ago I ran across a beautiful note you had written to me. I lived at your Water St. 2C apartment in 2013-14 in Sandusky. It was a wonderful experience.

I was blessed to reconnect with Wayne and spend a wonderful evening with him, his wife Ruth and her daughter and stepson. I weep for the distance between us over the years but God was kind. I will always love you Cousin.

Wayne Fredrick loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing his faith with others. He and his wife Ruth held a Bible study each week in their home. So many people wanted to join they started a second Bible study every week. Wayne loved being with people and everyone he met was a friend! He looked forward to spending eternity with his Lord and Savior!
