Colleen Powers Obituary

Colleen M. (McCarthy) Powers, 74
1951 - 2025
Lynn - Colleen M. (McCarthy) Powers, age 74, of Lynn, Massachusetts, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 following a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband Timothy P. Powers, with whom she shared 47 years of loving and fun-filled marriage.
A near lifelong resident of Lynn, she was the daughter of the late John T. "Jack" McCarthy and Agnes M. (Shanahan) McCarthy. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, both in Lynn. She gave back to her alma mater St. Mary's for many years by means of sponsoring rooms and volunteering her time at the school's annual "Manhattan After Dark" fundraising event.
Colleen commenced her working career at the Crum & Forster Insurance Company in Boston, Massachusetts. Thereafter, following in her father's footsteps, she joined the family business and became the longtime owner of McCarthy Glass Company Inc. in Lynn. For many years, she regaled customers with her ever-present cheerfulness and quick wit while conducting business from behind the counter, which she utilized as her personal performance stage. Colleen had a contagious sense of humor and she relished in making others smile or burst into spontaneous laughter. She befriended complete strangers in a mere moment and her generosity to others was boundless. She was the life of every party she attended and was particularly fond of Halloween parties where she impressed all with her most "original" costumes. She loved the company of her pets and socializing with others wherever she went. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her loved ones, either at home or on so many family vacations. Colleen is survived by her son Paul T. Powers of South Boston, Massachusetts, two grandchildren, Trevor Powers, and Isaac Powers of Lynn, Massachusetts, and her brother Attorney Kevin S. McCarthy and sister-in-law Susan McCarthy of Nahant, Massachusetts. Those who knew and loved Colleen will forever be grateful for having had her in their lives.
Service Information: Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 12:00PM in the Solimine Funeral Home 67 Ocean Street (RTE1A), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the Service from 9:00AM-12:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you consider memorial donations in Colleen's name to the Boston North Cancer Association, Inc. PO Box 3153, Peabody, MA 10960 and at www.bostonnorthcancer.org

My husband and Colleen father were life long friends and Colleen and Tim became our neighbors. So enjoyed and appreciated our conversations in the neighborhood. She brightened our days. She will be missed.
