Irene B. Welch

Irene B. (LeBrun) Welch passed away on Oct. 30, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter E. Welch with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Born in Lynn on Oct. 18, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Jr. and Rose-Anna (Beaupre) LeBrun. She attended the Lynn schools and worked in Lynn. She eventually moved to Peabody, with her family, where she lived out her adult life. She loved being with her family and friends. Irene loved to travel with her late husband across the country to California and back, and visited the state parks all along the way. The goal was to visit their daughter, Sister Mary Colombiere, O.C.D, of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. They also made many trips to Canada, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Maine, Cape Cod, and Niagara Falls. Irene and her late husband Walter took up genealogy together. She traced her family back to the 1600's. Her late husband, Walter, traced his own family back to the 1600's. They received a lot of enjoyment from their travels and their genealogy work. As husband and wife, they also enjoyed gardening together. Irene continued to grow a garden up until a few years ago. She also loved knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her daughter, June M. Welch, who entered the Convent in 1956 in Long Beach, Calif., and became Sister Mary Colombiere. Her daughter is a school teacher and sometimes the school principal. Irene also leaves many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Shirley, and a special great niece, Diane. Irene is predeceased by a son in infancy as well as all of her sisters and brothers: an infant sister Irene, her brother, Frederick, her brother, Joseph, her brother, Almon, her sister Emma, her sister, Fabula-Rose, her sister, Bertha and her brother, Roland. Service information: Irene's funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, in St. Adelaide's Church, 708 Lowell St. Peabody, MA at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend both the Mass as well as an hour of Visitation in the CUFFE-McGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, prior to the Mass from 8-9 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Irene's memory to Sister Mary Colombiere, O.C.D., at St. Philomena Convent, 21832 ½ S.
