James E. Atkinson Jr., 98
1927 - 2025
Peabody - James E. Atkinson Jr. 98, loving husband of the late Leanora (Aucella) Atkinson, died Monday, June 23, 2025 at Hathorne Hill Health Care Center in Danvers following a long illness.
Born in Cambridge, on January 13, 1927, he was the son of the late James Sr. and M. Yvonne (Arsenault) Atkinson. He received his education in the Saugus school system and graduated from Saugus High School. He continued his education, earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy where he served as an electrician's mate third class.
Mr. Atkinson had been employed for many years as an engineer for Avco and Textron where he worked on the heat shield for the Apollo Mission.
A resident of Peabody for over sixty years, James enjoyed reading, camping in New Hampshire, bicycle riding and his trip to Italy. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are three daughters, Joanne Andrews of Clinton, CT, Corinne Corsino and her husband, Louis of North Reading and Deborah Titus and her husband, Greg of North Andover, six grandchildren, Christopher Andrews and wife, Kristen of Marshfield, Jennifer Ferguson of Anthem, AZ, Michael Silvia and his wife, Jennifer of Derry, NH, Joshua Silvia and his wife, Elise of Wilmington, Louis Corsino III and his wife, Margaret of Ellington, CT and Candice O'Connell and her husband, Timothy of Derry, NH, nine great grandchildren, three sisters, Irene Lee of Lynn, Jean Blakely of Saugus and Patricia Sullivan of Carlsbad, CA, a brother, Joseph Leonard Atkinson of Middleton and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Robert and Richard Atkinson.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Friday morning, June 27, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody at 12:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody, In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
