James R. Bettger, 89

Somerset - James R. Bettger, age 89, of Somerset, formerly of Swampscott, died Wednesday morning at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of the late Janice (Doliber) Bettger with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Swampscott, he was the son of the late Stanley & Mildred (Parker) Bettger. Jim attended Swampscott schools and graduated from Swampscott High School, Class of 1951. He was a master plumber for over 50 years, a member of the St. Stephens Methodist Church in Marblehead, and a volunteer at the House of Seven Gables in Salem. He loved spending time with family and friends sharing many stories along with his love for his art.
In addition to his late wife Jan, he is survived by his son, Jonathan & Patricia Bettger of Somerset, his daughter Julie & John Burke of Beverly, and his son Jeffrey Bettger of Woburn, his grandchildren Robert Bettger & James Bettger, great granddaughter Madisyn Bettger, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved Gracie. He is survived by his sister Jane Finney of Chicopee, and predeceased by his sister Ann Correnti of Salem.
A special thank you to Mackenzie Porier of Tiverton, RI, who cared for him for the last 3 ½ years as his CNA, aka granddaughter, who took exceptional care of him when he needed it the most. It is never too late in life to make a friend.
Service Information: Visitation will be held at the Parker Funeral Home at 35 Franklin Street Lynn MA Sunday, April 14th from 10am-12pm with a memorial service immediately following at the funeral home.
