John D. Obituary
1938 - 2025
Saugus - Mr. John D. O'Brien, age 87, died on Tuesday, September 16th at
Brightview in Wakefield. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (O'Leary) O'Brien.
Born and raised in Malden, Mr. O'Brien was the son of the late Robert and
Dorothea (Gordon) O'Brien. A graduate of Northeastern University and a resident of Saugus since 1961, John was a former Mechanical Engineer for Polaroid.
John was a lifelong athlete, playing basketball and baseball in his youth, softball and pick-up basketball as an adult and as a competitive long-distance runner. He traveled frequently with Anna and Denise, with many trips to California.
His greatest joy was his grandchildren, attending sporting events, dance recitals and other cultural and school events and introducing them to his favorite movies.
Mr. O'Brien is survived by one daughter, Denise O'Brien of Saugus; two sons, Daniel O'Brien and his wife Pamela Casey O'Brien of Saugus and Kevin O'Brien and his wife Lauren of Magnolia; daughter-in-law Jeanmarie O'Brien of Saugus; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Joseph, Alexandra, Owen, John (Jack), Miles and Hannah. He was predeceased by his son John D. O'Brien, Jr.

Service Information: Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS on Friday from 5 -7 p.m. A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus at 10 a.m. Interment in Riverside Cemetery in Saugus.
