John J. Devaney, Jr., 88

Lynn - John J. Devaney, Jr., age 88, of Lynn, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 11, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Patricia G. (Amero) Devaney, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. A lifelong Lynn resident, he was the son of the late Rose P (McFarland) and John J. Devaney, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1951 and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College in 1955. Also, he is a member of the Optical Society of America and the Society of Applied Spectroscopy.

John served in the United States Navy and the US Naval Reserves. He enjoyed a long career as a physicist in the Optics and Photonics industry, retiring from Boston Electronics just three years ago at the age of 85. An avid gardener, John also had many artistic talents and enjoyed painting and drawing. He was a handyman with a knack for fixing things and was also a Nascar fan. John was a longtime friend of Bill W. His family was his greatest joy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters; Mary Blocksidge and her husband Robert, Maureen Strileckis, Laura O'Connell and her husband John, and Terese Leonard and her husband Tim; nine grandchildren; Andrew, Amy, Jillian, Paul, Sarah, Jack, Colleen, Matthew and Sean; his siblings; Agnes LaCroix, Joseph Devaney, Eileen Lynch, and Francis Devaney, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Lawrence and Leo Devaney.

Service Information: His funeral will be held on Saturday at 11AM in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9AM-11AM, prior to the service.
