Michael Leonard Obituary

Michael (Mike) Timothy Leonard, 65

1958 - 2023

Lynn - In Honor of You, Mike.

Your life truly mattered, Mike. You meant something to many, you meant the world to us.

No-one could've asked for a better brother. In fact, there are not enough pages to fill with words describing just how wonderful a brother and human being Mike truly was.

We want the world to know how much you meant to your sisters, Maureen (Moe), Kathy (no longer with us), and Kris. Moe remembers when she was a kid how you bought her a 10-speed bike and taught her how to ride it. She recalls all the wrestling games you took her to at the Boston Garden, the Red Sox games at Fenway Park, and the many fun visits you took her to the batting cages to hit some baseballs – the list goes on.

I myself (Kris) remember as a young child the snowmen and igloos you made for me in the winter, watching silly cartoons alongside me and laughing, and you being there for my college graduation. Mike, I was absolutely touched to see you out there in the crowd with all the other proud family members of the many graduates. It's something I will never forget. It truly meant so much to me.

Mike had a kind, sensitive side. You try growing up with three sisters!

He purchased a black lab puppy and brought it home as a Christmas gift to Moe. The pup was named Deacon. When Deacon passed away all too soon, Mike cried alongside his sister and apologized for not knowing of the hidden heart defect the entire litter of those puppies had inherited.

When Moe describes this memory, it is an obviously poignant interaction she shared with Mike, and this has forever been etched onto her heart.

He loved animals. Case in point: Blizzard of '78. Mike dug a tunnel through the snow outside so that our outdoor cat Boo-boo Kitty could be let outside to do her business. He didn't want her to get trapped/frozen out there in all the snow. Boo-Boo insisted on going out there, and so there was no way around the matter. Mike cared.

Kind, sweet, funny, brilliant, loyal, and sensitive are but a few of Mike's many innate positive qualities.

He had the most impeccable work ethic, second to none. He kept the same job he began with the work co-op program in high school and remained at that job for at least 40 years. What a provider he was to his family. This didn't go unnoticed by us or your parents, Mike.

Mike loved all things sports, was a hell of a hockey player in high school, WWF enthusiast and an avid softball player in his 20s. We absolutely loved going to your high school hockey games and cheering you on, Mike. Those were the best of times. You made the newspaper on several occasions during those years. Moe even remembers walking through your high school lobby back then and seeing pictures of you on the wall as that impossible-to-beat goalie.

Preferring peace over conflict, Mike was not one to start a quarrel. However, he did speak up for what was right when the occasion warranted, most certainly when it came to his loved ones.

A sense of humor? Put it this way, if you were in a room with Mike, you were bound to laugh at his antics, the joke telling. The truth is, we got more of a kick out of him laughing at his own jokes than the jokes themselves! He had the most infectious laugh and brought joy to those around him. He took center stage when around his sisters, mom and dad. We all enjoyed his fun-loving personality.

In all certainty, you couldn't help but love Mike. If you met him, you were sure to be an instant fan of his. Those who really knew him will attest to what a great guy he was.

If you have a brother you love, be sure to tell him how much he means to you. We loved ours, and sadly forever lost him. Please rest in peace, Mike. You gave it your all and did your best. No doubt about it. You will be forever deeply loved by your sisters, will affectionately be remembered, and will never be forgotten.

Mike was the loving father of two sons and two grand-children.

With all our love,

Your sisters, Moe, Kathy, and Kris.

Not sure what to say?

To Mike's family, my sincerest condolences for your loss. I only just found out, and am devastated by Mike's passing.
I have so many fond memories of working with Mike at Analogic, he made me laugh all the time. I cherished the Christmas cards that he would send my sister and I each year.
I worried when I never received a card last year and am saddened to now know why (I had hoped he had just given up on our tradition of exchanging lottery tickets that never win)!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you

Our deepest condolences are with your family. Mike was an amazing man! I frequently spoke to Mike in regards to our granddaughter Jaelynn. He was such a kind hearted man, always willing to help anyone out. I remember he would call and say when Jae gets older your having "the talk" with her and he would laugh .. he was just kidding because he would have done anything for her. He was always a kidder! What a sense of humor and most of all his kind kind heart he will always be in mine... love you Mike! Rest in peace

I love you Mike. Wished I could've spoken with you before you left us to see how you were doing, offer some help in some way, give you at least hug and tell you I love you. But I guess it was time for you to go. I just hope somehow you knew how much you were loved. See you again someday. Love Kris

Cousin Mike - I always remember him laughing or making someone else laugh...One time he brought home a cage with some sort of an animal in it.. He had a covering over the cage, but you could see part of the animal..He wanted to show everybody what he had in the cage so he had us gather around the cage ( I as about 12).. once we were gathered we saw the cage shaking and all of a sudden the cage door flew open and the animal was loose.... Come to find out Mike had a raccoon tail tied to a spring and when he I clipped the door the tail sprung up and everyone scattered.... Awesome joke!!!! God bless you Mike.
