William Stratis Obituary
1937 - 2024
Peabody - William Stratis, 87, of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary C. (Siderakis) Stratis with whom he shared 64 years of marriage until her passing in 2021.
He was born in Andros, Greece on June 17, 1937 and was the cherished son of the late George and Aphrodite Stratis.
William was born in Greece and at the age of 20 he came to the USA with just the clothes on his back. Shortly after coming to the USA William got married and had a family. His family was everything to him.
William learned English and went to trade school for carpentry. He owned dozens of homes (many of which he built himself).
William was forced into retirement due to his blindness. This created new ways for him to do what he loved (MAKING MONEY). He also loved his Greek music and created a band here in the USA.
William is survived by his daughter, Joanne Gildea and her husband Edward of Peabody; his granddaughters, Maria Lilja and her husband Christopher of Salisbury, Stephanie Yeaton and her husband Richard of Salisbury and Samantha Call and her husband Nathan of Haverhill; his sister, Virginia Garafalou of Andros, Greece; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sadly, in addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Laskaro Karistinos and his brother, John Stratis.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. Peabody on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:30AM to 12:00PM, followed by his Funeral Service in the funeral home chapel at 12:00PM. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind at 600 Washington St. Boston, MA 02111.
