William Votano Obituary

William J. Votano, 65
Lynn - William Joseph Votano, a Navy veteran, 65, died peacefully at home where he lived for many years with his wife, Linda Votano.
William, known fondly by his friends and family as "Billy," was born in Lynn, Mass. He is predeceased by his parents, Alice and Patrick Votano. During his childhood, he learned creative ways to make money. He was a shoe shine boy and shoveled snow for neighbors. He was an entrepreneur and didn't know it. He had a way of talking to people and convincing them they needed these services. He graduated from Lynn Tech. He stayed in Lynn his entire life, except for his time in the Navy from July 1979 to July 1983, on the USS Yellowstone, then USS Valcon, where he went to many places: California, Virginia, Mexico and Cuba, just to name a few. He made many great friends and spoke fondly of his experience. He worked in the boiler room and was honorably discharged as an E4, MR3.
After his service in the Navy, he worked for GE, then spent several years at Garelick Farms, where he retired. He had 2 children, Chantal Phillips and Nicole Votano. He also had 3 grandchildren: Miley McLaughlin, Blake, and Cannon Phillips, whom he adored.
He was an avid fisherman, who always dug for his own worms. Deep-sea fishing trips with his family and friends were some of his greatest memories.
His family trip to Italy to see his cousins, was a memory he also planned for many years and cherished.
He loved karate, kickboxing, and working out in general. He loved animals. He loved to laugh and never forgot a birthday. Billy was loved by so many. He was very close to his brother "Tony" Votano and sisters Annita and "Lee" Votano, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors, friends, and family will truly miss him.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 12:00PM-3:00PM in the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway, Lynn. Prior to the conclusion of visitation, his family will offer remembrances at 2:30PM. Burial will be on Monday, January 5, 2026 in Pine Grove Cemetery at 10:00AM.
