I worked for Gordon for two years, back in the early 90's. He gave me a job at a rough time in my life, when I was newly divorced and raising two little kids on my own. It was just he and I in the office most of the time, working side by side. He was very kind and patient with me. He never got upset when I screwed up something. He was consistently friendly and always a gentleman. One thing that stands out in my mind from that time is, every afternoon, he would call Jessie on the phone, just to chat with her. He'd say "What are you doing?", then listen and laugh to the details of her day. It was such a simple thing, but it made a huge impression on me. I didn't know that a husband that had been married for that many years, could still care about his wife like that. And when he talked about his children, it was always with such respect. I learned a lot from Gordon, and not just about trucks and their equipment.

At his memorial, which was so beautiful, I got to hear about all the others who's lives he had touched, and there were many. Pastor Mike told me that fifteen or so people now attend Inland Hills Church because Gordon had initially brought them. Wow, what a life well led. I have no doubt that when he got to Heaven that Wednesday, our Lord said to him "Well done, good and faithful servant".

I haven't forgotten, of course, that Gordon was also a very close friend of our family, and had helped my parents out of many a jam. But it would take pages to write about all the wonderful, selfless things he and Jessie had done for them, so I'll save that for another day.

I'll see you later, Gordon.
