Joseph Piscioneri Obituary

Joseph Domenick Piscioneri Sr.
January 31, 1932 – June 15, 2015
83, Joe Piscioneri was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth; five children, Joseph, Jr., James (Lori), Debra Breyman (Ralph), Colleen Stephen (Neal), and Sean; five grandchildren: Ashley, Conor, Marybeth, JD, and Domenick. He was preceded in death one month-to-the-day by his sister Nancy Gulizia. Joe was born in Paterson, New Jersey, on the 31st of January 1932, on the kitchen table of his parents, Rosa and Domenick Piscioneri. In 1950, he met his match in a fiery red-headed Irishwoman named Ruth O'Tierny. They married in September 1952, just prior to his Army service. Later, after moving to California, Joe became a firefighter for the Ontario Fire Department, where he made Battalion Chief in 1976, and Division Chief in 1980. He retired in 1988, after nearly 30 years in the fire service. Joe earned his Bachelor's Degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, in 1984, at the age of 52. A man of faith, Joe worked as a physical education teacher at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (Upland), and served on St. George's (Ontario) school board and building committees. Joe held a lifetime teaching credential in Fire Science and was a substitute teacher and guest lecturer at Upland High School. When he was nearly 60, Joe joined The Claremont Club and became a personal trainer working with seniors on health and balance. His family, his faith, and his work with the community were the touchstones of Joe's life. He will be missed by all he knew. Rosary: 6pm-8pm Thursday, June 25th, St. Joseph's Church, 877 N Campus Ave, Upland CA Funeral: 10am, Friday, June 26th, St. Joseph's Church.

I remember Joe and his family, when I was a adolescent, attending St. Joseph's Church. My parents were friends with Joe and Ruth. Such a beautiful family. My condolences to the family.

When I was a new Fire Fighter at age 21 on the Ontario Fire Department at Station Five,Joe was our Captain. i remember him very fondly. Just about every Sunday that we were on duty,he would make his special cannoli dish. Joe would spend much of the day preparing it for the crew. A few times,we were interrupted by an emergency call which required us to roll out of the station to deal with it. Never was a problem for Joe,and when we got back, his meal was the best. About ten years ago,I had a phone conversation with Joe. He was still a great guy. I'll miss him a lot..........Dennis Grady OFD,1964-1971

Sam and I will miss a longtime friend and neighbor. We always enjoyed chatting with Joe at the Claremont Club. He would catch us up on his delightful son, Sean (friends with our son, Abe), and his beloved Ruth. Our heartfelt condolences to his family. Sam and Ferrel Salen

I remember working countless hours with Joe on the St George building project. He will be dearly missed, he was man of faith and loved his family. I recall many drives with him to meetings at the Diocese and loved talking about his grandson Conner. To the Piscioneri Family, especially Ruthie, you are in my prayers and thoughts during these tough times.

Our love and condolences go to Ruth and Colleen, Debra, Jim, Joseph and Sean. Joe was a decent and good man. Our family enjoyed Joe and Ruth coming up to visit our family each year in Monterey. May Joe be in God's care and in eternal light with Christ Our Savior.
