Kenneth Fowlkes Obituary

Kenneth Edgar Fowlkes
Kenneth Edgar Fowlkes, age 85, of La Verne, CA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10:30pm. The funeral service will be held at Todds Memorial Chapel, Friday, February 24, 2017, at 1:30pm. 570 N. Garey Avenue, Pomona, CA, with procession and Interment to follow at Pomona Cemetery. The Reverend Mark S. Lieske will be officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the service at 1:00pm.
Kenneth was born in Upland, CA, on September 14, 1931. He graduated Chaffey High School and began his banking career at the Bank of America. Soon thereafter, he received his Commission in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant, where he served with distinction. He returned to the Pomona Valley to a banking career with Pomona First Federal Savings and Loan, where he retired in 1994.
Kenneth was married to Betty Lou Fowlkes, nee: Harris, on September 21, 1951, and remained together until Betty's passing in 1997. Kenneth was active in his Community, serving the Kiwanis Club, the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the order of The Silver Beaver Award, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, all form of water sports, and was an avid outdoorsman devoted to his children and grandchildren.
Kenneth is survived by his son, Steven K. Fowlkes, his daughter, Susan E. Fowlkes-McNair, his daughter-in-law, Barbara Fowlkes, and grandchildren, Barbara, Stephanie and Kenneth Fowlkes, his brother, Robert Fowlkes of Upland, CA, and his nieces and nephews, Carmack, Todd, Mitch and Melanie. Kenneth is preceded in death by his father, Edgar, his mother, Florence, his wife, Betty, and his brother John.
In lieu of flowers, the Family requests donations in memory of Kenneth to: the NRA Foundation, 11250 Waples Millroad, Fairfax, VA 22030.
The Family wishes to thank Hillcrest Retirement Community, Blanca Delgado, and VITAS Healthcare Services, for their care of Kenneth.
