Richard Hawkins Obituary

RICHARD HAWKINS Richard Hawkins was born in Albany, NY on April 10, 1950 and passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Medical Center on December 9, 2020. He was and always will be loved by Sherri, his bride of 41 years, his daughter, Paige, and son, Ryan who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brother, David Hawkins, and sister, Lisa Holley and brother-in-law, Bob Holley, as well as sisters-in-law, Jackie Ryn and Laurie Guilllen and brother-in-law, Phillip Guillen. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews on the West Coast and East Coast. Richard started his own insurance company, Richard Hawkins Insurance Services over 40 years ago and loved helping and serving his many clients as well as many friends who would stop by his office. They would leave knowing they were being well taken care of. Everyone knew Richard's first love was Jesus Christ, His Lord. He would share of this love to whoever came his way. Richard was an avid Yankee baseball fan as well as an avid fan of the Ohio State football team. He knew the backstories of each and every player for both teams. Richard and Sherri would tell each other almost daily in their marriage, "We never knew it could be this good." Sherri and Paige will miss him daily, but they are comforted in knowing he is safely "home" in the arms of Jesus, with his son Ryan. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Harvest Christian Fellowship as well as Cedars Sinai California Heart Center Foundation.

The Lord brings Richard to our attention often giving us the opportunity to share his faithfulness to HIM. Cathie and I knew Sherry and Richard briefly through our bible study group. Why the Lord chose to take him home He only knows. May his family and friends be blessed with the comfort of knowing this and continue to share the contribution both he and Sherry make in our lives.

Richard will forever remain an example to me of overflowing Faith, unshakeable ethics, and playful humor. To be in his presence was to be next to a giant of a man in all ways. I can't believe he has left us, but will always be guided by thinking "What Would Richard Do" in any given situation. I loved him, and will always do so. He blessed me with his friendship, and encouraged me to always be the best I could be. Here's to our reunion one day Richard -- -- and in the meantime, try not to cause too much of a ruckus up there! With love, and eternal thanks for your friendship, David N. Johnston

As I thought of Richard I initially thought of him as one among ten and then progressively upped the ante to first among a hundred , then first among a thousand, and then settled in on one among ten thousand. I will always remember Richard with his smile, humor, commitment to excellence, great conviction, boldly sharing Jesus with others, emboldening others to follow his example. I love the dear fellow and will miss him and look forward to picking things up in our heavenly home. Blessings to Sherri and Paige.

Dear Sherri,
It has been many years since I have had the privilege of seeing Rick. What I can say is his smile lit up the room with the JOY of OUR LORD. Each time he spoke to me, Rick had an encouraging word to bless me. It truly felt like Jesus was encouraging me. I loved receiving Rick's Christmas letter's so much that I called you to request one after I moved to Cabo. Rick's evident love for you, his precious bride as he always referred to you, his uncanny, witty and humor filled letters, the events of the past year telling of his beloved children, Ryan and Paige's times, always jesting about himself and often times the letter's were written in a formal English prose. Sherri, I am praying for our Lord to continually be with you and Paige every minute of everyday as you process this new season of your lives. We thank our God for every remembrance of Rick.
Love, your sister in Christ,
Kathy

I only knew Richard a short time as we shared the same bible study together. But as members of the Family of God we are truly brothers and sisters and share a Love in common that comes from knowing or Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. Richard and I are the same age so we shared a common timeline here on earth. I will always remember the radiance of our Lords love manifesting in his and Sherrie's presence. One of my memories of this brother in the Lord will be his gentle exhortation on how he shared the gospel with those God placed in his path.
May our paths cross again Brother Richard.

Richard was a sweet and tender man who adored Sherri and his family. A When we would see them at church, Rick would always ask how college was going and how recent mission trips had been. It was evident how much he loved Christ and wanted to care for others. Till we see each other again. God bless you.

Richard was a wonderful friend who I used to see at Kraemer’s Coffee shop fairly regularly before Covid. Paige and our kids went to Woodcrest Christian together but we also had another thing in common: the death of our oldest sons. He was a wonderful comfort to me when I shared the details of my son’s fight with cancer and then his death earlier this year in January. Little did we know that we would lose Richard later this year. Continuing to pray for Sherri and Paige as they mourn their loss!

We have so many wonderful memories of 40 years of ministry and friendship with Richard! He loved his Sherri so deeply, and he was always her biggest cheerleader. We will never forget him sitting in the children's church audience and smiling widely as Sherri became a child to reach children for Jesus in our "Skituations" skits at Harvest. He was a multi-talented man: intellectually brilliant with a witty side that made him magnetic--always the "life of the party." He suffered great physical trauma in his later years, which gave him profound compassion for people, especially those who are lost and need to know the faithful love God has for all his children. Richard could turn every conversation into a "come-to-Jesus" moment. Now we know that our dear friend has truly "Come to Jesus."

Rick holds a very special place in my heart. He was like my brother. He would always be there for me if I had questions or needed help. I remember when Rick, Sherri and I went to Hawaii together. Rick went on the patio and just danced and danced. We just cracked up. I'll love him always and miss him terribly.

Our dear friend Richard was an outstanding Christian and friend, as well as warrior for Life. To his love and bride as well as family and friends, we were blessed to know Richard. Now we are grateful and thankful that he is at home, sitting at the right hand of our Lord around that great table in heaven, joining our loved ones in celebration and eternal joy and peace. Grateful for your friendship Richard Hawkins.

December 23, 2020

We were in a couples home Bible Study with Richard and Sherri about four years ago. They also often sat in church across the aisle from us. Richard was a man who loved the Lord. He had a great sense of humor an a great smile. We were very sad to hear he had passed away. He will be missed by many people at Harvest as well as he often walked up and down the aisle before church welcoming those around him. We are praying the Lord will comfort Sherrie and Paige and those who knew and loved him.

I am not often at a loss for words, but it’s hard to write about someone you love, who was like a father to you, who you have looked up to for most of your life. The impact Rick has made in my life is indescribable. God knew that my sister and I needed a strong, God-loving man in our lives. We’ve looked up to Rick for most of our years, and have watched as he loved “his bride” and children so well.

I could go on and on about Rick, but those who know and love him just “know”. We all have our memories. We all see and hear his rosy-cheeked laugh in our heads, and we were all impacted so greatly, and so deeply. Rick, you’ll never be forgotten.

My prayers continue for you, Sherri and Paige. I love Rick with my whole heart, and I love you both, too.

We met Richard and family at the end of 2014. My daughter passed January 2015. Richard came to her service. His presence ministered to us. Two months later Richard's son passed. Fortunately we've enjoyed beautiful, treasured times together too. Richard is an exceptional person. I say is, because I believe he is enjoying life with the Lord along with Ryan and Rachele. I believe we will all again sit at a table in glorified bodies. We will rejoice and fellowship without the constraints of this world. God bless Sherri, Paige and all of the Hawkins family. We will have Richard in our hearts until we see him again. Love you dearly. Ralph and Rhonda

I’ll always remember him on my birthday since we are birthday twins! The Hawkins’ house was always such a warm, welcoming house. Paige, I remember your dad was always smiling, happy, and telling jokes. I still laugh thinking about how he used to write your papers for you in high school and used all of these big words in there that we knew you didn’t write .
Praying for you, Sherri and Paige through this difficult time and please know that my family is always here for you.

I am at a loss for words when describing who Rick was to me. A man after God's heart, a humble servant, and a mentor all come to mind when thinking about him. As you rest in God's presence, may you know the eternal impact you had on all of us.

To Sherri and Paige, please know that you are greatly loved and that we will continually be lifting you up in prayer. May God hold you in His loving arms and protect you during this time.

December 23, 2020

I adored Richard, funny that a man would say about another man, but it's true. His character would be so transparent in a Godly way it would make me question myself about mine, in a good way. Since the Holy Spirit is not here to condemn but but to reveal the goodness of God it was the outpouring of Richards spirit on me. I truly loved hanging at his office, taking his time when he is telling stories with sometimes tears rolling down my face of the way miracles came upon him and his family. So much, so good and to think that heaven is a place where we will meet again soon! John Roberts

I have so many memories of our beloved Richard it's hard to know where to start . Some of my favorite memories are when Richard would laugh SO hard at something - his joy was so incredibly contagious and he'd have us all laughing along with him in no time! His love was expansive and so, so many of us consider ourselves the luckiest to have loved and been loved by Richard. He was a man of deep faith, who, even when enduring his own trials and suffering, still found a way to share God's love to those around him, no matter what he himself was going through. It brings me tremendous comfort and peace knowing Richard and Ryan are together in heaven with our loving Savior. All my love to you, Sherri and Paige - always.

Richard is an incredible man of God!!! For whatever reason, only the Lord knows, He chose to take Richard home to be with Him. I can’t help but to think He needed Richard to help get things ready for the marriage supper of the Lamb, and our gathering to Him to prepare for Jesus to come back to earth with us, and set up His Millennial Kingdom where we will reign with Him for 1,000 years! I’ve known Richard since the late 90’s and I could never get over how great this guy is! He always helped me in whatever it was I was going through and dealing with, along with Bonnie and Dawn. I am sure that my brother’s reward is going to be great!!! We are blessed to be living in the generation that will witness our Lord’s return, and guess who’s going to be with Him to meet us in the clouds? All of our Loved ones including this precious man!!! Oh Lord we can’t wait for the day! Thank You for Your grace, love, and mercy, we love You Father in the Name above all names, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We’ll see you soon Richard! Bless the family and friends with Your comfort Father. We love and trust You with all of our being, be glorified Father in and through Richard’s taking and bring peace. Pastor Rick Skelton

Richard was an amazing brother in the Lord! I loved how he always referred to his loving wife as his bride! He was so proud of the marriage that he and Sherri had. He was a man with character and integrity. He will always be in my heart as such a great friend. He looked after me and so many others, but he made each person he encountered feel so uniquely special. What a loss for this world, but an amazing gain for heaven. He would want us all to know that Jesus Christ is the only way to eternity and that we should seek after Him alone for our peace and healing. I love you, Brother!! Thank you for enriching my life!!
