MENDEZ JR.
Oct. 21, 1995 - Aug. 26, 2014
Armando Mendez Jr. died Tuesday, August 26 as the result of an automobile accident in Imperial. He was 18.
Armando was born October 21, 1995 in Sacramento and was most recently employed with Service Masters. He was active in MMA and received 2nd place in Grapplers Quest 2011 in Las Vegas, 1st place in Teen's NOGI Advance 150-169lb division, 3rd place in Teen's NOGI Advance 170+lbs division, and Men's NOGI Advance 170-179.9lbs. He held a 7-0 Amateur MMA record and was welter weight champion for Xplode Amateur First Series. Armando was the promotion's second youngest champion.
Services will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley with visitation taking place Friday, September 5 at 8 a.m. Chapel service will commence at 10 a.m. Friday, September 5 with Pastor Mike Hurtado officiating. Armando will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery immediately following the service.
He was preceded in death by his uncles Francisco Alcala, Harry Silver, and Carlos Mendez; and grandpa, Salvador Mendez.
Armando is survived by his mother, Anita R. Gonzales of Brawley; sister, Bianca Mendez of San Antonio, TX; brother, Christian Mendez of Brawley; father, Armando Mendez of Sacramento, CA; grandma Jenny of Calipatria; nana Lucia Mendez of Sacramento; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Our GOD calls upon us as he needs us. We might not understand why he was called at such a young age, but he was. It was GODs plan to have an angel up in heaven while that same angel now watches over his loved ones. May the family find comfort, peace, and strength through this time. My prayers are always with your family. Rest in peace Mando.
